Job Purpose
The General Labourer position at McAsphalt is the starting position of new employees with no previous experience.
Reports To
The General Labourer reports directly to the Facility Manager.
Main Duties and Responsibilites
- Previous experience with mobile equipment, forklift, AWP, skid steer, etc.
- Previous experience with road construction or industrial settings
- Ability to use all forms of hand tools
- Understanding of transport safety or working with truck/tankers
- Familiarity with bulk liquid terminals – loading and off-loading practices
- Perform maintenance on a variety of pumps, motors, mixers, etc.
- Performing daily checks on the following:
- Security checks – gates, doors and equipment secure
- Bulk Liquid terminal and associated equipment, above ground
- Safety equipment: fall protection, gas monitoring, etc.
- Preventative maintenance program
- Must demonstrate and execute safe work plans and job hazard analysis including hot work procedures.
- Must be able to lift 50lbs or recognize where lifting mechanisms need to be implemented
- Complete all CCOHS training provided by MCA
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred- Knowledge in an industrial setting and awareness of process hazards
- Be able to work under a comprehensive safety program
- Familiar with Lock out/Tag out
- Experience in manufacturing environment that relies on truck transport for production materials
- Understanding of emulsion production or road construction practices, would be an asset
- Computer skills related to Microsoft suite would be an asset
- Must possess a strong work ethic and ability to work in high paced environments
- Trustworthy means of transportation as shift start times may fluctuate
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the job (standing for long periods of time, lifting heavy loads of up to 40 pounds etc.)
- Must be organized, self-driven, and have ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions
