Position: Mechanical Design Engineer

Job Description:
As a vital member of the Mechanical Engineering team, you will lead and contribute to the design, development, testing, and commissioning of mechanical equipment and systems for nuclear reactors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the equipment and system design lifecycle - from conception through decommissioning, ensuring technical protection and compliance.
- Prepare and approve technical documentation, including design documents, technical drawings, BOMs, specifications, development and test plans, and engineering queries.
- Utilize 3D modelling for conceptual design and conduct stress analysis to ensure integrity and performance.
- Apply Design for Manufacturability and Assembly (DFMA) techniques to streamline production processes.
- Provide technical support across departments, enhancing collaboration and efficiency in project execution.
- Lead and participate in internal and external meetings, including design reviews, and communicate technical concepts and progress effectively.
- Drive project success through effective design activity management, meeting deadlines and budgets while maintaining high-quality standards.
- Champion process improvement and technological advancements to achieve world-class product development and deployment.
- Foster customer relationships and ensure market alignment, involving direct interactions with external customers, subcontractors, and cross-functional internal teams.
- Support proposal development, scope review, budgeting, and technical presentations to customers.
- Identify project risks, develop and implement solutions, and decisively act to resolve issues, maintaining clear communication with the leadership team.
- Ensure health and safety standards are upheld across all project and activity executions.
- Short-term travel may be required for client and stakeholder meetings.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- B.A.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering.
- Holds or is working towards a PEO license.
- Minimum of 7 years experience in Design Engineering within Nuclear, Aerospace, Transportation, or other highly regulated industries.
- Demonstrated leadership in complex engineering projects across complete EPC lifecycles.
- Proficiency in project management, budgeting, and financial metrics.
- Broad exposure to interdisciplinary activities including systems design, requirements development, interface design, manufacturing, and testing.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, understandable by a diverse audience.
- Creative problem-solving skills, analytical abilities, developing leadership skills, and teamwork proficiency.
- Flexibility to work remotely on short-term customer site assignments.
- Innovative and creative thinkers are highly valued.
Desirable Attributes:
- Experience with 3D CAD software (Inventor/SolidWorks preferred) and FEA software (ANSYS).
- Experience in the CANDU Nuclear Industry.
- Familiarity with CSA Nuclear Codes and Standards.
- Familiarity with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Codes and Standards.
- Knowledge of machine design.
