We are looking for a Production Planner to establish a production plan for Metal Production, align shipping with the logistics team to meet our customers' needs, and manage cold metal & scrap inventory at the Aluminum Smelter located in Kitimat, BC. The Production planner is the main link between Casting Operations team and all the Commercial teams.

Reporting to the Production Planning Manager and working a Monday to Friday schedule, you will be:

  • Promote Rio Tinto's Health, Safety, and Environmental standards, fostering a culture of care, courage, and curiosity.
  • Developing and maintaining a comprehensive production plan, monitoring performance across sheet slab, small ingot, and sow production
  • Collaborating closely with the plant production team and supervisors to ensure seamless planning execution.
  • Coordinating shipping requirements with carriers and collaborates with Operations, Planning, and Commercial departments.
  • Addressing moderate-complexity issues within the operational context, considering global business dynamics.
  • Efficiently managing metal inventory, including effective scrap management, to meet designated targets.
  • Serving as the primary liaison between internal stakeholders and the Montreal Commercial office, ensuring alignment on sales plans, production forecasts, and logistical needs.

What you’ll bring

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team.
  • At least a college diploma in Production, Finance, or Industrial Engineering or other related training in production optimization and/or any other relevant planning experience
  • Possess a minimum of two years' experience in aluminum processing or a similar industrial environment.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for planning and tracking of production performance.
  • Effective communication across all levels.
  • Seamless collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Resilience and composure under pressure, allowing you to navigate complexity and influence outcomes effectively, even without formal authority.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office programs such as Excel, Word, etc.

It will also be beneficial if you have:

  • Intermediate proficiency in French language
  • Knowledge of SAP

The base salary range for this role is $73,360 - $110,040 CAD in addition to allowances, bonus, equity, health or retirement benefits, and any other discretionary benefits offered at Rio Tinto. Our base salary ranges are based on role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by the skills, experience, and impact you bring to the role.
