MTBM (Microtunnel Boring Machine) Operator

Full-time: Guaranteed 40 hours per week
Long-Term Contract Employment - 24 months with the potential to extend
English, Reading, Writing, and Speaking
Hourly Rate: $44.78
Benefits Package Offered: Union Benefits Provided, Union Pension, Employer paid Union Dues
Location of Work: Edmonton, Alberta, with the ability to travel across Canada (excluding Quebec) to project sites as required
Project Rotation: 3 weeks on, 1 week off if travelling

DESCRIPTION
Michels Canada is looking for a MTBM Operator to support various tunneling and trenchless projects across Canada. The successful candidate will be performing a wide range of tasks and support business priorities in a fast-paced environment. This position will be based in Edmonton and will frequently travel to projects as required.
RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain and promote a strong safety culture for all employees, vendors, and customers and follow all safety policies, procedures, and regulations. Identify and communicate workplace hazards and correct or seek assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions.
  • Reviewing hydraulic and pneumatic schematics to test, identify, diagnose, and repair issues with mechanical systems, subsystems, and components.
  • Managing project documentation, drawings, tunnel alignment profiles, and different soil properties.
  • Maintaining and producing operational reports and daily activity logs.
  • Monitor line and grade to ensure alignment remains within tolerances described in project plans and specifications.
  • Operating specialized MTBM construction equipment safely and productively.
  • Provide training and mentoring other team members.
  • Other duties as assigned.


REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a MTBM Operator using various tunneling or micro tunneling machines. TBM Experience is an asset.
  • Knowledge of trenchless equipment.
  • Knowledge in MTBM lubrication systems and products involved.
  • Knowledge and operational experience with programmable logic controller (PLC) systems.
  • Knowledge of MTBM guidance systems; including laser/visual target and Gyro navigation.
  • Knowledge of MTBM conditioning methods.
  • Technical experience with various MTBM guidance systems in at least one tunnel greater than 300 meters in length and installing various pipe systems for MTBM tunnels.
  • Ability to assist with surveying equipment, interpret plans and properly complete calculations for grade and alignment for MTBM Tunnels.
  • Must have valid Class 5 Driver's License or the ability to obtain one.

EQUIPMENT

  • Experience with Herrenknecht or Ackerman MTBM ranging from Herrenknecht AVN 800-3000 is preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • While performing the duties of this job, requirements include prolonged standing, walking and/or sitting.
  • Frequently required to climb stairs and/or ladders, balance, stoop or kneel and/or walk on uneven ground.
  • Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions, inside and outside.
  • Capability to work in confined spaces is required.

LANGUAGES

  • Must be able to communicate verbally and through written language (by hand and digitally) in English.
