Museum Assistant

The Rimbey PasKaPoo Historical Village and Smithson International Truck Museum is a non-profit museum governed by a volunteer Board of directors. The Museum encompasses 16 buildings on 9 acres on the north end of the town of Rimbey. The Museum’s mission is to preserve the history and heritage of the Rimbey and area community by providing and maintaining a historic recreational facility for present and future generations. Volunteers make up a large portion of the Museum’s workforce with seasonal staff and one full time staff.

The Museum is seeking a Museum Assistantto work fromMay to September, 150 hours a month, full-time, with the potential for permanent placement. Rate of pay offered is $15-$18 per hour depending on qualifications.

Qualifications:

§ Ideal candidate is a post-secondary student with an interest in museums, history, education, tourism, marketing or communications

§ Comfortable with and proficient with Microsoft Office applications

§ Strong problem solving, public relations and interpersonal communication skills

§ Ability to work in a team environment with staff as well as volunteers

§ Strong research and grant writing skills an asset

§ Some bookkeeping knowledge and experience handling cash

§ Articulate and well organized

Duties:

Assist the Administrator in the maintenance of all Museum grounds, artifacts, collectables, chattels and real property held by the Society. Including but not limited to;

• Conducting interpretive tours for Museum visitors, working alongside summer staff.
• Work alongside summer staff for the maintenance and upkeep of all museum grounds and museum displays.
• Prepare for events planned by the Society, by making sure that all areas are clean, functioning, and presentable. Work closely with volunteers who are working in the Park and Museum for Society Sponsored Events.
• Assist in the maintenance in increase engagements on Facebook, twitter and other media
• Assist with the development and implementation of successful summer services and programs for school groups and larger group tours.

Requirements:

• Ability to complete tasks as directed and take initiative work diligently when unsupervised
• Must be able to work outdoors in various weather conditions
• Strength and mobility to perform required physical duties and ability to work on a ladder and to lift up to 25 kilograms

§ Able to work weekends and some holidays

§ Must be willing to follow occupational health and safety guidelines

§ Criminal record check may be required
