---Pioneer Museum Summer Positions ----

The Stony Plain and Parkland Pioneer Museum is an open-air history museum and has Recognized Museum Leader status with the Alberta Museum Association. It is dedicated to collecting, preserving and presenting the history and stories of Stony Plain and Parkland County since 1992. The museum consists of 25 buildings on fourteen acres within the limits of the Town of Stony Plain.

We are seeking positive & enthusiastic Museum Assistants to join our team of staff & volunteers from May 1 to the end of August.

OVERVIEW:

  • Applicants must be between 15-30 years of age at the beginning of employment period to meet Canada Summer Jobs grant stipulations.
  • Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred & have a valid Social Insurance Number & legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • May through August – 35 hours per week @ 7.5 hours per day.
  • $16.00 per hour
  • Weekend work will be required.
  • Hours: 5 days weekly, 7.5 hours per day (9:00-4:30) inclusive of 30-minute unpaid lunch.
  • Museum Summer Hours: Daily 10-4

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • VISITOR EXPERIENCE:
  • Welcoming visitors to museum and orientate them to the site and attractions. Conduct interpretive tours for Museum visitors.
  • Learn Pioneer Museum & local amenities and events to provide information to visitors as a Town of Stony Plain Ambassador.
  • Welcome visitors to Mercantile Gift Shop/Pop Up Mercantile and assist them with purchases, operate POS system.

RENTALS/PUBLIC PROGRAMMING & EVENTS:

  • Prepare spaces for events planned by the museum, by ensuring all areas are clean, functioning, and presentable. Set up and tear down for various rentals & events as needed.
  • Take an active part in all summer museum events in whatever capacity is needed.

RESEARCH & DISPLAYS:

  • Learn display and exhibit requirements.
  • Work in conjunction with our display team on at least one display.
  • Learn & conduct archiving procedures.

OPERATIONS:

  • Assist in many aspects of daily operations including but not limited to:
  • Opening & closing procedures
  • Cleaning & Janitorial duties as required.
  • Watering & caring for plants both indoor & outdoor.
  • Promotion & marketing of Museum & local events in collaboration with other museum staff.
  • Assist in creation of signs and internal marketing. Act as an ambassador by marketing upcoming events both at the museum as well as in the local community.
  • Assist staff & volunteers in administrative and other duties as assigned.
  • Assist with inventory & display in the PM Mercantile. Set up and a
  • Cash handling & sales through POS as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Excellent written & verbal skills.
  • Drivers license & reliable transportation. (no public transit available)
  • Experience with MS office, search engines & social media platforms.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Self motivated, organized, detail orientated & ability to follow verbal/written instructions as well as employing critical thinking. Strong work ethic.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, as well as working diligently when unsupervised.
  • Exceptional customer/visitor service skills in a variety of settings.
  • Preference will be given to individuals who have an interest in museums, history, education, tourism, marketing, or communications.
  • First Aid & Whmis training an asset.
