Summary

Job Title: Network Infrastructure Specialist

Location: Tumbler Ridge, BC

Pay Rate: $90,000-$95,000/ annually

Language of Work: English

Start Date: When filled

Schedule / Terms of Employment: 8 hour shifts, (5 days on, 2 days off)

Primary Purpose

The primary purpose of the Network Infrastructure Specialist is to administrate and develop our Wired and Wireless Network on multiple sites and implement an ongoing project of 'Infrastructure Refresh', a project to replace Firewalls, Switches, Gateway, and Wireless APs on all our sites.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for implementing the Infrastructure Refresh Project. Maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving our CISCO Switches, Firewall, Radio network connecting various buildings and sites, Internet connectivity, phone system, IDF (Independent Distribution Frame), MDF (Main Distribution Frame), and the functioning of our Data Centers on the mine sites and the head office.
  • Provide designs, plans, maintenance & documentation supporting communications Network Infrastructure improvement.
  • Provide coaching and training to junior IT team members to troubleshoot and maintain the Network and Switches/Firewalls.
  • Oversee repeater stations, tower infrastructure, Fiber/Copper, and PTP radios for data/voice services provisioning and maintaining existing tower infrastructure across all the mines.
  • Perform troubleshooting to diagnose and resolve problems. Work with users, IT colleagues, vendors, or in cross-functional groups as needed until issues are resolved, and all parties accept solutions.
  • Provide input into the IT strategy and infrastructure technology roadmap.
  • Effectively manage and maintain all edge devices and internal security points, the secure transit paths that utilize current and next-generation firewall technologies.
  • SME in administering, configuring, installing, and maintaining a firewall, switches, routers, and APs.
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree/Diploma in Information Technology, comparable industry certifications and/or ability to demonstrate equivalent competencies.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in IT roles in a senior position (Admin or Engineer).
  • Experience in implementing multisite Network Infrastructure.
  • Cisco and MS certification or equivalent.
  • Cisco certification for Network and Security is preferred (CCNP).
  • Extensive knowledge of field area wireless networks. Mesh Networks with Ragant Radios.
  • Experience in implementing datacenter servers and storage is an asset.

Skills and Abilities

  • The candidate must have strong IT, Wireless/Wired network administration skills to support an effective IT Department and IT vendors in delivering a robust and comprehensive IT framework for this growing mining business.
  • Hands-on experience in implementing Network Infrastructure and completed a few multisite projects.
  • An in-depth knowledge/understanding and hands-on experience of Cisco Switches (Meraki), Palo Alto Firewall, Field Area Networks, Wi-Fi APs, and Cambium P2P Radio Networks is required.
  • Experience and in-depth knowledge of Cyber Security and implementation and optimization of the security policy.
  • Expertise in LAN, WAN, WLAN, VOIP, and WWAN design and implementation.
  • Can provide first response and full remediation support to critical network outages during regular and after hours.
  • Experience and skills with Windows servers and VMWare.
