Hatch is seeking a Junior Structural Designer in our Mississauga office specializes in phosphates as well as mining and mineral production facilities. Hatch works on brownfield and Greenfield plans for expansions and new plants. Hatch also is used as commissioning agents between the contracting companies and the clients.

Position Summary:
The Junior Structural Designer is responsible for the production of civil structures 3D models and 2D drawings in accordance with project requirements under the supervision of the Lead Civil Structures Designer. The Civil Structures Designer is required specialized and/or advanced engineering principles at conceptual and detailed level. Activities include site investigation and civil structures steel and concrete modeling and drafting for both front end planning and the detailed engineering phase for multi-discipline projects.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
-Assist the Lead Civil Structures Designer with the delivery of project requirements as they relate to scope, quantities, cost, and schedule
-Coordinate the work of draftspersons in the preparation of contract drawings, record keeping and other statistical work
-Produce and maintain technical and engineering drawings using 2D and 3D CAD software as required
-Perform conceptual layout work
-Develop design details
-Check drawings prior to release
-Ensure coordination with designers and engineers within the discipline and with other disciplines
-Perform clash detection of models with other discipline models
-Participation in formal engineering review processes
-Verify onsite condition and dimensions relating to existing facilities
-Construction supervision dependent upon project demands
-Incorporate safety in design
 
Competencies (knowledge, skill, attributes):
-Associates degree in CADD design or equivalent combination of education and experience.
-Proficient in the use of 2D and 3D structural designer software packages
-Previous internship or co-op experience is preferred
-Ability to learn quickly and to take on new challenges
-Have demonstrated technical aptitude
-Collaborative team player with excellent interpersonal skills
-Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
-Strong written and verbal communication skills
-Shows critical and creative thinking and problem solving, and brings forward solutions for our clients' toughest challenges
-Adapts and embraces change
-Has a strong sense of health and safety
