About the role
Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, the Occupational Health and Safety Advisor provides support to the Human Resources Team, corporate Directors and site General Managers to improve Occupational Health and safety performance and create a desired safety culture.
- Provides advice and support on the health and safety initiatives and training
- Supports the prevention measures, health and safety training , WorkSafeBC / Alberta WCB claims management and return to work plans
- Provides recommendations for ongoing development and improvement of Occupational Health and safety programs.
- Supports the management of existing and new claims.
While working within all applicable regulations, legislation, and workplace processes.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Include but not limited to;
- Develops strategies to improve Occupational Health and safety performance and culture t corporate and site level
- Engages site leadership teams to develop and implement prevention strategies to minimize risks.
- Advice and coaches site leadership team on solving health and safety issue.
- Providing guidance to site leadership team on managing occupational claims and disability claims
- Analyzes trends in work-related injuries and develop action plans to prevent injuries.
- Supports and provides guidance to site leaders to create medical assessments, treatment programs, and other measures for occupational claims
- Oversees development and implementation of return to work plans for corporate office staff
- Coaches and advises community leadership team on maintaining regular contact with injured/ill employees to reduce time loss durations and enhancing recovery
- Maintains and updates reports, analyze trends and makes recommendations for.
- Participates in site visits relating to critical health and safety issues.
- Stays current with the collective agreements, WorkSafe BC regulations, Alberta WCB Regulations, Human Rights legislation, and Long-Term Disability Benefit plans.
- Advise and coaches site leadership on facilitating and evaluating return to work programs to ensure employees return to work soon and safe.
- Performs other related duties as required
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a similar role at a large organization that has multiple sites
- Diploma or degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Kinesiology,or Human Resources
- Demonstrated track record of improving Occupational Health and safety, injury prevention and managing return to work plans with the ability to apply case management principle.

- Excellent decision-making and problem-solving skills
- Strong ability to perform functions of the position with minimal supervision
- Proven ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written form
- Strong multi-tasking, time-management, negotiation and customer service skills
- Strong diplomacy skills with an ability to be flexible and also give andtake direction well
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with clients and team members
- Excellent documentation, time management, and organizational skills
- Proven ability to work within confidentiality requirements
- Understanding of position related medical terminology
- Strong computer literacy skills
- Ability to travel
- Excellent analytical skills being able to produce detailed analytics on statistics and related comparisons as well as executive summaries.
