The Inspector of Mines - Occupational Health is responsible for the review and development, enforcement, promotion and education of Occupational Health regulations as established by the Mines Act and Health, Safety and Reclamation Code for Mines in BC (HSR Code). The position involves travel to conduct mine inspections and works closely with Ministry and industry personnel and other stakeholders throughout the province to provide technical support and guidance regarding Occupational Health.
Job Requirements:
• Master's Degree in Occupational Hygiene and a minimum of one (1) year of experience in the application of occupational hygiene principles; OR,
• A professional designation in occupational hygiene (e.g. Certified Industrial Hygienist or Registered Occupational Hygienist) and a minimum of one (1) year of experience in the application of occupational hygiene principles; OR,
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered, such as a Bachelor's of Science Degree and three (3) years of application of occupational hygiene principles.
Preference may be given to candidates with one (1) or more of the following:
• Master's Degree or professional designation (e.g. CIH, ROH).
• Experience in the application of occupational hygiene principles in mining or heavy industry.
• Experience working within a regulatory agency, preferably in mining.
Provisos & Willingness Statements:
• Must be willing to testify at hearings and trials.
• Must be available to travel by air, fixed wing, helicopter and overnight on short notice.
• Must be able to climb ladders, walk up and down steep ramps, work underground, use and be fitted for appropriate protective equipment in environments where exposure to chemical vapours, noise, dust, heat and cold are present.
• Valid BC Class 5 Driver's Licence (or equivalent).

About this Position:
This position can be based in any of the following Ministry of Energy, Mines & Low Carbon Innovation offices:Victoria, Vancouver, Smithers, Cranbrook, Kamloops and Prince George.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to a few days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
