Job Title: Operational Accountant
Location : Calgary
Work Type: 5 days in office.

We are seeking a top-tier professional with an ambitious spirit coupled with a strong business sense and customer service approach as an Operational Accountant.

Reporting to the Accounting Supervisor, the Operational Accountant is responsible for providing, recording and analyzing accounting information for our portfolio of Renewable Energy facilities of high complexity. This is an exciting opportunity for an Operational Accountant looking to expand their skillset by learning various aspects of our business. This role requires strong analytical skills with attention to detail. In this role you will support various groups across the operational accounting team.

What You Get To Do:

  • Monthly reporting and analysis of revenue and expenses to ensure the accuracy of financial information.
  • Monthly preparation of the financial results of the various assets to report results to the business unit senior leadership team, including preparing month end journal entries/accruals and invoice coding.
  • Monthly account reconciliation preparation and investigations.
  • Interpretation and application of contract terms and pricing to ensure accurate invoicing to customers.
  • Update monthly billing models.
  • Preparation of JV and Partnership financial statements.
  • Communication and interpretation of results with partner accounting teams.
  • Ensure continual improvement of internal processes and controls, including establishing and monitoring accounting control procedures and processes.
  • Champion for continual improvements, automating processes, and ensuring best accounting practices are followed by project team members across Energy Infrastructure.
  • Develop and maintain internal and external relationships to better understand and be aware of factors that affect operations.
  • Monthly vendor invoice coding.
  • Quarterly Indigenous Relations Reporting.
  • Ensuring the timely and accurate accounting of intracompany transactions such as:
    • Services received from affiliate companies.
    • Recovering costs as contractually required from JV partners and customers.
    • Ensuring appropriate accounting treatment under IFRS for each legal entity.
    • Timely transactions are transferred to the correct company and bank.

Who You Are:

  • Undergraduate degree in Business, Accounting, Finance is an asset.
  • 1-3 years of experience in accounting, finance is required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a team-player perspective and the ability to build relationships and work constructively with others to achieve business goals.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written. Comfortable communicating with all levels of the organization and with customers.
  • Ability to translate operational information into financial results.
  • General understanding of computerized accounting systems.
  • IFRS knowledge.
  • Excellent working knowledge of MS Word, Oracle Fusion, and Excel.
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines while still maintaining a high level of accuracy.
  • Ability to follow through and complete overlapping projects.
  • Strong organizational, time management and prioritizing skills
  • Strong problem identification and problem resolution skills
  • High level of critical and logical thinking, analysis, and/or reasoning to identify underlying principles, reasons, or facts.
  • Ability to interpret and implement company policies and procedures.
