This position is located at the Dufferin Organics Processing Facility. The Operator is part of a team that focuses on the Process Control, Equipment Operation, and Troubleshooting for our organic waste processing facility.
Job Responsibilities:
· Available for the afternoon shift (Monday to Friday from 2:30 PM to 11:00 PM).
· Plant Start up, shut down and manage power outage situation in safe manner.
· Operate machinery, including heavy mobile machinery, to ensure the daily production targets are met.
· Operate and maintain process parameters of the dewatering, biogas treatment, WWTP and bio-filter.
· Coordinate chemical reception logistics (Caustic, Ferric chloride, Carbon, Sulphuric Acid); load out of ammonium sulphate, spent caustic or any other chemicals
· Project and plan schedules for digestate bin switch over; residue Bin/compactor switch over
· Troubleshoot issues to ensure maximum plant uptime, predicting possible failure and allocating work/Job Orders on time
· Conduct daily area inspections and audit rounds and fill out check sheets.
· Using handheld gas monitoring device, adhere to all plant safety rules, codes and regulations including PPE
· Understand and meet daily digestate processing and RNG/Power production targets
· Ongoing improvement of plant operations to reduce risk, reduce down-time and optimize performance
· Identify and mitigate process risks and keep chemical consumption within tolerable range.
· Collect and deliver samples to on site lab for analytics.
· Should have ability to operate SCADA with possible availability on weekends.
· Perform minor repairs and maintenance (as oil top up, tightening of nuts or pump glands etc.) as necessary.
· Consistent and accurate communication with plant operation supervisor for daily log or report preparation.
· Use general plant operation skills WRT Pump, blower, compressor operations
· Safety First approach - Target Zero incidents/injuries, communicate unsafe activities or processes.
· Daily safety – building doors closed to avoid fugitive emissions, keep work area clean to avoid slip, trip or fall hazards.
· Available for further training - secure valid license, and operate equipment such as loaders, trucks, forklifts, and cranes.
· Consistently aim to meet all environmental compliance requirements.
· Ability to work some weekend shifts as required.
Requirements:
Education and Experience
· Minimum High School Diploma; College Diploma in Engineering or Science related Field is preferred
· Minimum of 3 years’ experience with waste handling and preparation, water processes, anaerobic digestion, bio-gas generation/handling
· Experience with heavy mobile machine operation is preferred
Skills
· Wastewater or bio-energy plant experience in particular anaerobic digestion is an asset.
· Heavy mobile machinery experience.
· Basic maintenance skills.
