Georgian Bay Residential Centre is seeking individuals responsible for ensuring day-to-day support is provided to individuals diagnosed with special needs by enhancing their quality of life and meeting the values/expectations of Georgian Bay Centre. The support worker is responsible for maximizing the health, safety, and personal fulfillment of people diagnosed with special needs.

- Be familiar with and consistently apply the principles of Springwater Residential Centre; Mission, Vision, Values, Policies, and Procedures.
- Demonstrate a strong work ethic and act according to Springwater Residential Centre Performance Standards, demonstrating respect for all individuals
- Use creativity and resourcefulness to ensure that the quality-of-life principles are effectively applied to the people you provide support to. Every effort must be made to enhance and maintain the individual’s dignity and respect
- Provide solutions to barriers impacting achievement of quality of life
- Provide appropriate support to ensure the health and safety of the people supported and ensure compliance to Policies and Procedures associated with Health and Safety and Abuse Prevention
- Ensure that, where appropriate, Behavioural and Crisis Protocols are documented and consistently practiced
- Provide coaching and support in the areas of; social skills, communications, vocation, and leisure activities
- Provide leadership in identifying and achieving personal outcomes as defined by each person
- Provide appropriate support to ensure individuals supported by Springwater Residential Centre have the knowledge and ability to exercise their rights
- Ensure the work area is clean and safe
- Ensure accuracy and timely completion of documentation required through legislation and policies and procedures such as; data collection, health records, etc.
- Ensure appropriate confidentiality is maintained for individuals, families, and other employees
- The support associate may from time to time be called upon by the manager or supervisor to perform other duties
Required Qualifications:
- Completion of Human Services Diploma (Social Service Worker, Developmental Services Worker, Child, and Youth Worker) from a recognized Community College or University and 1 year of related experience (preferably supporting individuals diagnosed with a special need)
OR
- Completion of Ontario Secondary School (or equivalent) and 5 years of related experience (preferably supporting individuals diagnosed with a special need)
- Certification or refresher in CPR, within the last year
- Current First Aid Certificate
- CPI certification and Crisis Intervention skills
- Safe management
- Must be capable of establishing positive interpersonal relationships and able to work as an effective team member
- Ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team as well as the ability to function independently with clients with a predictable outcome
- Demonstrate effective communication interpersonal skills
- Demonstrate flexibility and strong organization skills
- Familiarity with applicable legislation and regulations
- Working knowledge of computers and software such as; Microsoft Word, email, and the internet
- Self-motivated and demonstrated ability to motivate others
- The ability to recognize the cause and meaning of abnormal behavior indicative of a significant emotional and or psychiatric change and respond therapeutically
- Ability to handle crisis situations in an effective manner
