Reporting to the Packaging Supervisor, as well as receiving general day-to-day instruction from the Packaging Team Leads and Lead Hands, the Packaging Operator supports the delivery of exceptional customer service through packaging of products that will meet or exceed customer expectations.

This position is a Casual role with the possibility of becoming Full-time.

Responsibilities & Expectations:

  • Follows and complies with all Company quality standards and expectations and raises any quality concerns observed to their Team Lead, Lead Hand or Supervisor.
  • Ensures complete and accurate records are kept regarding packaging activities.
  • Follows the production schedule as communicated.
  • Follows guidance and direction from Packaging Team Lead, Packaging Lead Hand or Packaging Supervisor.
  • Operates various pieces of packaging equipment as required to ensure product is packaged and ready for shipment.
  • Works with Packaging Supervisor on getting cross trained on multiple pieces of packaging equipment.
  • Completes kaizen suggestions wherever appropriate, to bring forward ideas for improvement in the areas of safety, quality and productivity.
  • Follows and complies with all Company occupational health and safety standards and expectations.
  • Performs daily inspections and checks on packaging equipment to ensure it’s in optimal working condition, advises the team lead or lead hand on any equipment issues or concerns.
  • Meets all shift schedule requirements, including arriving to work on-time for all scheduled shifts.
  • Attends regular stand-up meetings to receive daily tasks and order requirements.
  • Follows all Good Manufacturing Practices and SOP’s.
  • Ensures good housekeeping practices are followed, ensuring work area and equipment is kept clean.
  • May be required to operate powered lifting equipment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 or GED equivalent education is preferred.
  • Previous experience working in a food production facility is an asset.
  • Strong teamwork skills required.
  • Strong problem-solving skills is an asset.
  • Ability to regularly lift up to 50 pounds weight and able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to complete repetitive work tasks throughout a shift.
  • Must be comfortable with rotating shift work.
  • Experience operating powered lifting equipment (i.e. forklift) is an asset.
  • Strong sanitation skills required.
  • Strong attention to detail is required.
  • Good communication skills required, including the ability to communicate effectively (verbally and in writing) in English.
  • Continuous improvement of mindset is required.
