Food Stash Foundation is a registered Canadian charity founded in 2016 that prevents good food from going to waste and provides dignified food access. Whether it is through our Rescued Food Box program, our Rescued Food Market, or through our partnerships with 30+ other local non-profit organizations, we are on a mission to reduce hunger, reduce our environmental footprint, and bring awareness to how our food choices impact our environment and our health.
POSITION OVERVIEW
We’re looking to hire a part-time Rescued Food Market Supervisor who:
- Is looking for extra work to supplement their income
- Wants to work for a charity and create a positive impact in their community
- Enjoys working in a highly collaborative team setting as well as directly with the community
- Has strong communication and leadership skills
- Fluent in English
- Other language skills an asset (Cantonese, Ukrainian)
The Rescued Food Market is open to all and is a way for Food Stash to distribute its surplus food directly to the public to support food insecure households. We are hiring for an on-site Supervisor who will be present to lead and oversee Market operations on a weekly basis. The Market runs every Thursday from 3pm-7pm, with additional setup and clean up time required. This position will oversee two other paid Market Coordinators, as well as several volunteers, to ensure smooth Market operations each week. The position will report to the Food Stash Community Engagement Manager
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Strong written and verbal communication; Fluent in English; Cantonese and/or Ukrainian an asset
- Proficient with email, text and/or Slack
- Sound judgment and excellent interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated work experience in a customer service role
- Experience and confidence with de-escalating conflict
- Organized, responsible, and punctual
- Effective communicator and compassionate leader
- Ability to comfortably and repeatedly lift boxes of up to 50lbs
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the guidance of the Community Engagement Manager, the Rescued Food Market Supervisor performs all activities related to running the weekly Rescued Food Market, and is specifically responsible for the following duties:
Primary Duties
- Oversee and participate in smooth Market operations every Thursday
- Manage team of two coordinators and several volunteers
- Collaborate with the Food Stash Volunteer Coordinator to ensure volunteer shifts are fully scheduled and volunteers are properly trained and prepared
- Manage and oversee Market Member registration, payments, communications
- Collaborate with Rescued Food Box Program staff and Operations Manager to ensure correct food is distributed at the Market
- Create a safe, accessible, inclusive and trauma-informed environment and physical space where all Market Members are welcome
- Build relationships and rapport with Market Members and solicit feedback to inform operational improvements
- Communicate and collaborate with Community Engagement Manager on Market strategy
JOB DETAILS
- Type: Permanent, part-time
- Schedule: Thursdays from 1pm-7:30pm, plus 2-5 additional hours per week(flexible timing) to prepare for each Market, manage Member communications, meet with Community Engagement Manager as needed
- Location: Food Stash warehouse for Market operations; additional hours for market preparation can be done from the Food Stash warehouse/office or fromhome
- Expected start date: as soon as possible
COMPENSATION
- $29 per hour. Food Stash is a Living Wage Employer as defined by Living Wage for Families BC
