Makeship exists to empower influencers, creators, and brands of all sizes to develop and launch limited-edition products that matter to their fans. Leveraging our design, manufacturing, and marketing expertise, we work with our partners to bring their products to life through our community-powered crowd-funding platform. Each product is given a window of 21 days to be funded by the community before we produce and ship to fans worldwide. We put our brand behind every product and guarantee quality and ethical sourcing. We're profitable, have grown the team from 2 to 70 people in 4 years, and we’re growing at an average annual growth rate of 200%+.


About the Role

We are looking for a People Partner who will be a strategic partner to our leaders in providing practical strategies for leadership, change management, workforce planning, retention, career architecting, succession planning, and compensation. You will work within key HR functions such as Total Rewards, Communication, People Experience, Performance Enablement, Events & Engagement, and Talent Acquisition. We are looking for an established HR professional who will bring expertise, dedication, and strategic thinking to the role. As a People Partner, you'll work closely with the VP of People & Culture and People Experience Specialist in creating actionable insights from survey feedback and taking our People initiatives to the next level. You will also be joining one of Canada's fastest-growing start-up companies! The salary banding for this role is between 75-95k.


This is a remote position for anywhere in Canada, and the selected candidate will be required to travel for work from time to time.

  • Coaches middle managers and team leads to enhance leadership abilities, relationships among teams/individuals, interpersonal communications and performance enablement

  • Strong ability to communicate with empathy in sensitive situations and modify communication style based on the situation and audience
  • Strong familiarity and experience with employment law and best practices for standard HR procedures

  • Demonstrates empathy and exhibits dedication to understanding the diverse experiences of others
  • Strong ability to identify inefficiency, and to propose and execute effective solutions
  • People-centric mindset: Effectively represents and advocates for the employee’s perspective
  • Aligns performance enablement and reward strategies to drive and reinforce a culture of high performance and innovation with and across the business units
  • Champion to drive and leverage employee engagement initiatives that elevate and sustain high levels of employee engagement
  • Manages organizational changes within the department providing strategic input on resource planning and internal communications
  • Demonstrates core behaviours of operating with a sense of urgency while ensuring accuracy

Key Responsibilities

  • Works closely with management and team members to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention
  • Quickly identifies business needs; develops and presents solutions to leaders to help drive results in the organization
  • Develops and drives People programs and processes from start to finish that align with Makeship’s goals and values
  • Plans company-wide events including the annual company retreat
  • Leads succession planning strategies and processes to develop talent
  • Leads Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion initiatives
  • Provides data-based insights to inform People strategy
  • Provides thoughtful and actionable feedback designed to help leaders and teammates grow
  • Serves as a point of contact for payroll, benefits, verification of employment, and other confidential employee questions
  • Maintains and improves our employee handbook and any other business and employment policies
  • Manages the Performance Review process
  • Manages Learning & Development programs
  • Point of contact for Compensation benchmarking for new and existing positions
  • Creates employment contracts and release agreements in accordance with employment law

Ideally You Bring

  • 5+ years in People Operations/HR
  • 2 additional years in a People Partnership position or equivalent People Partnership direct experience
  • CHRP designation
  • Bachelor’s degree
