Job description

JOB PURPOSE:

The HR Business Partner (HRBP) delivers effective HR services and an engaging employee experience, and provides expert knowledge and support to leaders, managers and employees in assigned client groups, covering employee relations, total rewards, organizational design, workforce planning, job definition, learning and development, performance management and recruitment. Acts as a Business Partner with the organization's stakeholders and client groups. The HRBP provides guidance and recommendations on best practices related to employee advisory services.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • A university degree in business, Human Resources management or related field.
  • A minimum 7+ years' progressive experience in employee relations and HR Business Partner/HR advisory role to people leaders.
  • CHRP/CHRL designation and Registered Professional Recruiter certification considered assets.
  • Strong general business acumen
  • Solid understanding of Ontario employment related legislation, Human Resource Management, development COE best practices, and effective HR services delivery
  • Knowledge of current trends and developments and its practical application in a regulatory environment

  • Expert knowledge of employee life cycle best practices:

  • Knowledge and familiarity with on‑line recruiting including the use of Social Media, Employment Standards, Legislations, Labor Laws, Pay Equity Act etc.
  • Experience with Applicant Tracking Systems. iCIMS and/or Dayforce experience an asset.
  • Experience using psychometric assessment tools, in particular, DISC, is an asset, and in providing feedback and coaching on results.
  • Familiarity with MS Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Adobe, DocuSign, SharePoint, videoconferencing and database software.

Client Customer Service Planning

  • The HRBP supports people leaders and employees on the implementation of human resource management processes, practices and initiatives, ensuring that recommendations are consistent with the best practices, Law Society strategic direction, legislative requirements, and the Law Society's commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.
  • Actively participates in stakeholder discussions to identify organizational needs and implement processes and approaches to address these needs translating goals and policies into effective business strategies.
  • Implements strategies to optimize employee engagement within client groups.
  • Supports managers and employees on the implementation of human resource management processes, practices and initiatives ensuring that recommendations are consistent with best practices, Law Society strategic direction, legislative requirements, and the Law Society's commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.
  • Supports the Manager, Employee Advisory Services in ensuring that HR services, policies and practices meet the needs of the Law Society and comply with applicable legislation.

Client Customer Service Delivery

  • The HRBP conducts needs analysis, and delivers recommendations with guidance from the employee advisory services manager, services and programs that support organizational effectiveness through the communication and promotion of the Law Society's business plan, policies and processes, leveraging success factors such as: change management, compensation, performance management, engagement and equity, diversity and inclusion.
  • Supports assigned clients (executive and senior management, managers and key contributors) regarding techniques, strategies and approaches for the optimal selection, development and management of people, the design of work and processes, organizational structures, management methods and styles, and Law Society policies, practices and 'culture' to achieve strong and effective employee engagement and performance.

Special Projects and Initiatives

  • Maintains knowledge of, and advises on, changes in government regulations, recruitment trends, and best practices among similar organizations.
  • Implements materials and processes for the efficient monitoring and maintenance of employee advisory services.
  • Working with the Manager, Employee Advisory Services, researches, and benchmarks employee advisory best practices.
  • Brings a professional, analytical perspective to employee services and initiatives.

Policy Development

  • Implements policies and procedures related to effective Human Resources practices linked with the Law Society's goals and ensures that policies and processes are consistently applied to achieve the fair application of processes and to limit the liability of the Law Society with respect to issues such as wrongful dismissal, inappropriate selection criteria, etc.
  • Monitors legislative changes which may impact upon organizational HR policy and practice.
  • Recommends changes and ensures the effective implementation and communication of changes to policy and / or practice.

Financial Responsibility

  • Drafts service provider contracts and contributes to the development of employee contracts, within established guidelines and procedures.
  • Provides input to the overall HR budget.

Team Membership

  • Works closely with and assists the Human Resources team in the administration of on‑going and new employee initiatives, including liaison with external consultants and service providers on projects, as well as the planning, scheduling, and development of effective work processes.
  • Delivers advice and collaboration on a variety of initiatives to facilitate and support Human Resources plans, which are aligned with departmental initiatives and plan of the organization.
  • Provides back-up to the other Specialists and demonstrates flexibility and commitment to the team to maximize resources and support the team during peak periods.

The Law Society has introduced a Distributed Workforce Model to leverage flexibility and agility, and to maximize employee productivity and engagement. Work arrangements will be determined by role and departmental requirements. The working arrangement for this position has been classified as hybrid, where the employee will regularly flex their work location between home and office.
