Physical Education Teacher

The Bigstone Cree Nation Education Authority serves the members of Bigstone Cree Nation in Wabasca, Alberta with a variety of Education services. Our primary responsibility is the administration of Oski Pasikoniwew Kamik (OPK) that offers programming for students Pre K-Grade 9. Our community has great amenities; a swimming pool, two fitness centers, a golf course, an arena, a sports centre with a walking track, several grocery stores, an RCMP station, a hospital, a bank, a pharmacy and a number of eating establishments.

Oski Pasikoniwew Kamik is seeking a self-motivated individual to fill the position of a Physical Education Teacher for the 2023-2024 school year. Oski Pasikoniwew Kamik teaches using the Alberta Curriculum, integrating our Cree language, culture and traditions into the daily teachings.

Responsibilities:

Treating students with dignity and respect, having regard for their unique circumstances, including adhering to human rights and privacy law.

Prepare and submit instructional long range plans

Be responsible for on-going student evaluations through formal and informal procedures for reporting and placements of students.

Liaison with parents in matters pertaining to student performance.

Be responsible for participation and organizing of extra-curricular activities.

Ensuring decisions are made to the ultimate benefit of OPK Students.

Taking responsibility for his or her own actions and work performance;

Demonstrating integrity, respect and courtesy to their fellow teachers; and

Contributing to a fair, equitable and harmonious workplace;

Respecting the Cree language, spiritually, and traditions within OPK school.

Qualifications:

A Bachelors of Education Degree is required

Eligible for or working towards their Alberta Teachers Certificate

Strong hockey background in playing, coaching and evaluating

The ability to teach CTS/optional Courses would be considered an asset

Connectedness to or willing to learn more about the Sakaw Cree Language and Culture

Current Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Check and Child Welfare Intervention Check.
