Job description

Procor Limited manages Canada’s largest private tank car lease fleet and operates an extensive repair network across the country. The fleet has grown to include more than 31,000 special purpose tank and freight cars. Procor also operates 27 repair locations servicing the petroleum, petrochemicals, plastics, chemicals, fertilizers and food markets.

In pursuit of this journey, Procor is currently seeking a Plant Project Engineer to join our Repair Business Unit, and to be based in either Edmonton, Alberta or Regina, Saskatchewan.
Reporting to the Manager of Plant Engineering, the Plant Project Engineer will be responsible for coordinating the implementation of projects in Western Canada in conjunction with business development, while ensuring compliance with industry and company safety standards.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Manage expansion, retrofits, and major repairs to fixed facilities; evaluate and update as necessary
  • Oversee new and existing projects from inception/design concept to the finished product
  • Implement qualification/repair projects including coordination with all other internal and external stakeholders, engineering consultants, and contractors
  • Support Plant Managers and Supervisors with any issues on any expansion/retrofits
  • Provide input into the preparation or updating of design and procedural standards
  • Research and development of equipment, tools, processes, and related materials in service centers, mobiles, and on-sites
  • Draft business cases and supporting documentation for submission
  • Find inefficiencies in repair process, recommend solutions, implement, report and follow up using concepts such as 80/20, lean manufacturing, and in-lining
  • Coordinate cost savings initiatives (energy efficiency, waste management)
  • Provide input for special capital projects as required
  • Other related duties as assigned
Frequent travel throughout Western Canada is required, as is some travel to Ontario.
Desired Skills and Expertise:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial, Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering coupled with 5 years’ experience in similar role or an Engineering Technology Diploma coupled with 10+ years’ experience
  • Project management experience required
  • Lean manufacturing experience an asset
  • AutoCAD drafting knowledge preferred
  • Experience in rail industry and an understanding of welding practices is an asset
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and ability to read technical drawings
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving ability
  • Sound organizational and analytical capabilities
  • Effective communication skills (oral and written) and phone mannerism
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Work in conjunction with Responsible Care for quality, regulatory and audit requirements
  • Strong commitment to corporate values, principles, and safety programs
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
