About the Role

We are looking to hire a Principal Potash Analyst to join our team. You will be responsible for monitoring global fertiliser market trends and analysing potash industry dynamics to enable short term commercial decision making and long-term demand and price forecasting. This position will be influential in supporting potash sales from BHP’s Jansen operation in Canada with a focus on Americas markets.

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing on-the-ground intelligence / tactical advise in key customer markets to support sales decisions.
  • Building foresight on potential shifts in potash trade-flows, regional demand dynamics by product grade, assessing geopolitical landscape and developing a thorough Understanding of agriculture value chain.
  • Maintain and improve long term potash demand modelling by monitoring underlying assumptions, tracking signposts and conducting studies as necessary.
  • Establishing and maintain appropriate relationships within the broader Market Analysis & Economics function within BHP.
About You

Qualifications

  • 1st class Honours degree, plus a postgraduate qualification preferred. Experience gained in mining industry with fertiliser market exposure will be an advantage.

Experience & Technical Competencies

The ideal candidate will have at least 8-10 years of experience, strong academic qualifications and a demonstrable track record in analysis and forecasting in a macroeconomic context. Of particular importance are:

  • Prior knowledge on the fertiliser markets, practiced in a current or recent role.
  • Familiarity with potash product grades and downstream value chain.
  • Experience in long term forecasting under conditions of uncertainty.
  • Familiarity with economic and financial databases and modelling software, e.g. Bloomberg; CEIC; PowerBI would be a plus.
  • Advanced data visualisation skills.
  • A strong research network within the agriculture and fertiliser markets.
  • An ability to extract actionable insights under complex macroeconomic settings.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder and management skills to brief technical and non-technical team members in the company.
