We are in the early-stage construction of adding Anaerobic Digestion to the Calgary Composting Facility and are looking for an innovative Process Operations and Maintenance Engineer to oversee the integrated complexities from pre-processing of organic waste through anaerobic digestion to biogas production and finally to in-vessel composting for finished compost creation. Position Summary: As a Process Operations and Maintenance Engineer, you will be responsible for the efficient operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the Calgary Composting Facility's technology and processes. This includes overseeing the pre-processing of incoming organic waste, managing the anaerobic digestion process for biogas production, and ensuring the quality and safety of in-vessel composting operations. Your expertise will help maximize the Calgary Composting Facility's output while adhering to environmental regulations and sustainability goals.

Opportunity Profile:

Reporting to the General Manager, notable day-to-day activities of the Process Operations and Maintenance Engineer will include the following:

Responsibilities:

• Collaborate across a team of maintenance and operations professionals demonstrating outstanding leadership, teamwork, and execution.
• Partner with the Operations Manager to oversee and optimize the entire process flow from organic waste pre-processing, anaerobic digestion, biogas production, to in-vessel composting.
• Team with the Maintenance Manager to develop, implement, and maintain preventive maintenance schedules for all equipment and systems to ensure minimal downtime and optimal performance.
• Troubleshoot process and equipment issues, providing timely and effective solutions.
• Become fluent in SCADA, Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), and eCompliance H&S Management Systems to manage data collection and analysis for process monitoring, control, optimization, and safety requirements.
• Prepare and maintain accurate documentation, including operation manuals, maintenance records, and compliance reports.
• Collaborate with the Corporate Development and Engineering Team members to pilot and scale up new technologies that can improve process efficiency and product quality.
• Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and work towards sustainability targets.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related fields.
• Minimum of 5 years experience in an operational and Maintenance role within anaerobic digestion, composting, or similar waste-to-energy facilities.
• In-depth knowledge of anaerobic digestion and composting processes, equipment, and technology.
• Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to solve complex technical problems.
• Experience with process optimization and the implementation of continuous improvement initiatives.
• Proficiency in relevant software for process monitoring and data analysis.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and project management skills.
• Commitment to safety, environmental compliance, and sustainability practices.
• Valid driver’s license and the ability to respond to emergency calls.
