Blue Mountain Plastics Inc. (“BMP”) is a plastics recycling facility headquartered in Shelburne, Ontario. It purchases polyethylene terephthalate plastic bales from municipal recycling facilities across Canada and the Northern U.S., and processes it into food-grade plastic pellets, which are used to make new food containers.
BMP is currently looking for five (5) Sorter – Recyclable Materials to join our team. You will be working at our Shelburne facility, located at 485387 30 Sideroad, Shelburne, Ontario, L9V 3N5.
These are permanent, full-time positions, based on 88 hours of work per 2-week cycle, with occasional overtime. At this time, we are only looking for individuals who can work a 12-hour rotating continental shift.
Position
The Sorter – Recyclable Materials is responsible for sorting the PET plastic materials into different colours, and preparing it for processing. Duties include the following:
  • Sorting PET materials into different colours, and removing foreign content;
  • Inspecting finished product to ensure quality standards are met, and preparing and packaging it for processing;
  • Ensuring all PET materials and finished products are properly handled, stacked, and stored to maintain safety and prevent damage;
  • Transporting PET materials and finished product manually or using powered equipment;
  • Operating various equipment and production machinery according to established safety and operational guidelines;
  • Performing routine inspection of all equipment, and reporting any malfunctions, defects, or maintenance needs to maintenance personnel or supervisors;
  • Maintaining a clean and safe work environment;
  • Adhering to all safety protocols and guidelines to prevent accidents and injuries; and
  • Performing other duties related to the sorting and transport of PET materials, as required.
Qualifications
We are looking for candidates who meets the following minimum requirements:
  • Successful completion of secondary school;
  • Dependable team player, with effective interpersonal skills, a positive attitude and keen attention to detail;
  • Comfortable working under pressure in a fast-paced environment;
  • Able to perform physically demanding work, complete repetitive work, stand for extended periods, and lift up to 50lbs;
  • Able to follow plant policies and guidelines;
  • Prior experience in the manufacturing and/or processing industry is an asset;
  • Able to communicate instructions (verbal and written) in English;
  • Willing and able to work a 12-hour rotating continental shift, with occasional overtime.
Compensation
We offer a generous compensation package, which includes:
  • Starting wage of $20.50 per hour, less applicable statutory deductions and withholdings. Following completion of your 3-month probation period, your hourly rate will increase to $20.75.
  • Individuals who complete our forklift training and certification program will receive a bonus of $1.00 per hour.
  • Overtime will be paid at 1.5 time your regular hourly rate, after 88 hours worked in a 2-week work cycle.
  • 10 days of paid vacation per year.
  • Extended medical, dental, and long-term disability insurance.
  • Participation in our corporate pension plan.
  • Roundtrip transportation costs for out of province applicants
  • Private health care insurance coverage for out of province applicants (equal to the Ontario provincial health insurance plan) until such a time that the applicant is eligible for Ontario provincial health insurance
  • Eligible for incremental raises in accordance with standard company policies.
