Position Title: Professor (Bass), Music Degree Program

Status:Full-time

Faculty/Department: Faculty of Media & Creative Arts, Bachelor of Music

Campus/Location: Lakeshore campus, fully on-campus.

Salary:Academic starting salaries are determined based on qualifications and years of related experience as detailed in the collective agreement for academic employees

 

What you will do:

The Faculty of Media and Creative Arts hosts a robust 48 programs in the fields of art, design, and media. Students and faculty in the growing

suite of Music programs have the opportunity to engage with counterparts in other programs to create authentic, interdisciplinary learning

experiences. The successful candidate will bring the perspective of Music to courses in both core music programs and related programs across

the Faculty. Humber College’s Music Degree program is committed to an inclusive educational environment that welcomes multiple

perspectives, genres, aesthetics, and ways of achieving excellence as a creative musician in the twenty-first century.

The incumbent will teach, develop curriculum, design/revise specific courses, create an effective and innovative learning environment for our

students, assess student progress and achievement; work collaboratively with colleagues, participate in committees and related associations.

Teaching will be assigned at both the North and Lakeshore campuses and may include teaching at the International Graduate School

(Toronto). Specifically, the incumbent must be able to teach bass-specific courses in the Music Degree program, supervise students on

independent production projects, and teach Music Theory, Improvisation and Ear Training, to students. With exception, the incumbent may also

teach alternative courses in the Music Degree program.

The incumbent will also support student advising, student recruitment, assistance with the promotion and marketing of programs, and develop

and maintain strong industry ties.

 
Qualifications
 

What you bring to the role: 

Education

The successful candidate will have a minimum of a Master’s degree in a related field from a recognized post-secondary institution and a

minimum of 7-years of experience of relevant professional skills/credentials in areas related to music performance, composition, songwriting,

and/or music

Experience and Skills

Industry acumen and experience is required as well as the demonstrated ability to teach a number of courses offered by the college, along with

specialized skills in the following areas: master class in Bass, leading an ensemble, private lessons, music improvisation, ear training, and

music theory. Deep ties to music and related communities are advantageous.

The successful candidate will be an outstanding teacher with the ability to teach online and in-person, who shares evidence of a curiosity-driven

desire to explore new tools, techniques, apply interdisciplinary approaches and ways to design and deliver accessible learning 

experiences to a broad audience of students at varying stages in their development. 

In addition, the successful candidate will have engaging and effective teaching skills, demonstrated ability to coach and support students,

demonstrated experience managing classroom dynamics, strong knowledge and application of current pedagogical principles, a student

focused approach and a demonstrated commitment to fostering innovation and positive change. The successful candidate will have a

demonstrated commitment to and knowledge of principles of equity and inclusion, be a collaborative team player and be committed to a positive

team culture. The successful candidate will possess well developed interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills and have

demonstrated ability to contribute positively to curriculum development and delivery.
