The opportunity:

TheProgram Manager, African Nova Scotian Communities Retrofit Pilot, will lead the development and implementation of the African Nova Scotian Community Retrofits Pilot. This role will continue to build constructive relationships with African Nova Scotian communities and organizations in Nova Scotia. The Pilot Program Manager will lead the development and management of an energy efficiency program with a primary focus on the communities of Preston and Guysborough. They will design and implement program strategies and develop and execute marketing and recruiting strategies as they actively engage and educate community members by providing resources and information regarding the benefits of energy efficiency and our programs and demonstrate the potential for energy savings. This role requires excellent time management, and organizational skills to be adaptable and results-driven.

  • Responsible for program design, including identification, analysis, and selection of appropriate energy efficiency measures and development of effective delivery strategies, based on community feedback.
  • Responsible for program implementation including development and execution of detailed management plans, quality control adherence, and program evaluation plans.
  • Responsible for managing program forecasts, goals, and budgets.
  • Responsible for internal and external reporting requirements, including preparing reports for stakeholders.
  • Responsible for managing Delivery Partners' execution of program roll-out, and reviewing and approving Delivery Partner's invoices and supporting documentation.
  • Work with Delivery Partners to resolve issues, help them manage their workflow, and track progress toward targets.
  • Responsible for providing guidance (as needed) to address customer complaints and inquiries.
  • Responsible for continuing to build and maintain relationships with Preston and Guysborough communities, while ensuring the implementation of energy efficiency improvements for homeowners.
  • Responsible for working collaboratively with the Community Engagement Specialist - African NS Communities, to ensure regular communication with the leaders, organizers, and community members of Preston and Guysborough to ensure they are well-informed on the Pilot and all Efficiency Nova Scotia programs.
  • Responsible for the identification and selection of contractors to perform the upgrades on the selected homes in the Preston and Guysborough communities.
  • Support in the selection of homes in the African Nova Scotian communities; confirm the desired upgrades (using building science principles) to ensure upgrades are appropriate for the building and the occupants.
  • Responsible for identifying eligibility criteria, participant processes, eligible measures, website content, printed materials, application forms, and scopes of work for partners / internal staff.
  • Responsible for supporting the marketing and communications team, in collaboration with the Community Engagement Specialist - African NS Communities, in the development of outreach and marketing strategies and materials.

What Will Help You Succeed?

  • Community College, University degree or diploma in a business-related field or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Existing relationships and demonstrated ability to work in and with African Nova Scotian communities.
  • Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle with a clear driver's abstract. (This can be discussed if you do not have one).
  • Project management experience.
  • Minimum two years of related experience in an energy-related role with experience developing and implementing energy management programs and/or energy savings projects.
  • Experience developing or supporting the development of successful energy efficiency and demand reduction programs (including planning, designing, and execution, which would be considered an asset).
  • The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, able to work independently and handle multiple tasks while working in an environment with tight timelines and high-quality standards.
  • The ideal candidate will have excellent client service skills (internal partners and customers), and the ability to work collaboratively or independently.
  • Proficient with all Microsoft Office software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).
  • The ideal candidate should have excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • The ideal candidate should be able to generate ideas, be innovative, and be a creative problem solver.
  • The ideal candidate should have the ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality, diplomacy and discretion.

What to expect in your first several weeks on the job:

In the first week, expect to:

  • Job shadow other Program Managers to learn about their roles and responsibilities.
  • Read program materials to get more familiar with documentation, tools, and processes.
  • Meet with members of your team and colleagues from across the organization to learn about your job responsibilities, program targets and history, and overall program goals.
  • Start performing core duties.

In the first month, expect to:

  • Work with team members to develop pilot program.
  • Engage with communities and outreach coordinators.
  • Perform core duties with moderate support.
  • Provide program deliverables and reporting.
  • Continue to learn more about documentation, tools, and processes.

In the first three months, expect to:

  • Perform core duties with limited support.
  • Understand the goals and expectations of the program and begin executing with the guidance of your manager.
  • Establish a performance plan with your manager.
