About Our Opportunity
As the Project Engineer, you will plan, design, implement, and administrate a wide variety of construction projects. You will be implementing planned infrastructure (facilities, sites, roads, bridges, trails, buildings, etc) projects within provincial parks. The work you do will help to further develop and support recreation throughout the Nova Scotia Provincial Parks system.
 
Primary Accountabilities
You are responsible for the planning, design, implementation, coordination, evaluation, assessment, and administration of a wide variety of new construction, repair, upgrades, and improvement projects within the Nova Scotia Provincial Parks System.  Responsibilities include the development, preparation, administration, and coordination of tender documents, cost estimates and specification writing.  You are responsible for ensuring that all work is completed in compliance with all national and provincial codes and regulations, adheres to procurement policies and process, accessibility standards as well as all occupational health and safety codes and regulations.  The incumbent is accountable for the successful delivery of projects within pre-established budget parameters.
Your work in this role will directly impact program delivery and ensure high quality recreational experiences are provided to residents and tourists through effective infrastructure design, development, and implementation throughout the provincial parks system.
 
Qualifications and Experience
A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited engineering institution is required. You must be (or meet the requirements to be) actively registered as an Engineer-In-Training (EIT) or Full Member (P.Eng) with Engineers Nova Scotia (ENS).
Currently Licensed to Practice as determined by Engineers of Nova Scotia (ENS) is considered an asset.  
As the successful candidate, you will have knowledge of and experience with the following:
•    tendering writing, construction, and project management
•    procurement policies and processes
•    infrastructure design, drawings, specifications, and probable cost of construction estimates
•    infrastructure assessment/inspection and planning
•    infrastructure standards and operations design
Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills are a requirement in this position to work collaborating with the Parks planners, design team, district, and develop and maintain and a strong network of contacts within municipal, provincial, and federal departments and/or agencies. This position also requires a results-oriented individual with a high level of initiative, motivation and an understanding of park infrastructure and trail management. Excellent communication, organizational and time management skills are required, along with broad technical and practical knowledge in infrastructure. 
Your ability to complete time sensitive projects using a high degree of professional judgement is essential. You are results oriented and have strong attention to detail. You are an innovative thinker with creative solutions that meet the needs of a diverse client group while complying with associated policies and regulations.  You will also have proficient computer skills including word processing and spreadsheeted applications.
The following are considered assets:
•    familiarity with the provincial parks, beaches, and trails system
•    developing infrastructure within protected properties (such as Provincial Park)
We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools:  written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview (s), and reference checks.

Working Conditions
Combination of office and outdoor environment. Some field projects required contending with insects and extremes of temperature. 
Must be physically fit, as incumbents are required to lift and carry field equipment and travel long distances in an outdoor environment.

Pay Grade:  PR 08 - PR 15  
Salary Range:  $2,074.62 - $3,348.16 Bi-Weekly
