Project Geologist – Field Exploration

Reporting to the Exploration Manager, the Project Geologist – Field Exploration will be focused primarily on early-stage exploration programs at the company’s Larder Gold Project – in Larder Lake, Ontario. The ideal candidate will be someone who has practical field experience with orogenic gold deposits, has experience leading crew members and can help generate drill ready targets.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Work with MAG Silver’s technical team on early-stage exploration programs in the Abitibi region with responsibilities including but not limited to leading field mapping and surface prospecting program, geochemical sampling (stream sediment, soil, rock), collection of structural data and implementing and monitoring of relevant workflows and procedures (QA/QC etc.).
• Historical data compilation for grassroots prospects including mapping and digitizing historical reports. Contribute to geological interpretation of the project areas including data integration and 3D modelling, preparing recommendations for follow-up exploration. Bringing up targets to drill ready state.
• Prepare summary reports and presentations on exploration program highlights.
• Prepare assessment reports for all qualifying work.
• Assist with day-to-day land and claim management.
• Communicate with supervisors daily and report all material exploration results.
• Promote a safety leadership culture by ensuring that proper safety practices are followed in accordance with MAG’s HSEC policies.
• Actively seek opportunities to recognize health and safety hazards, resolve safety issues, and work to mitigate associated risks in the workplace.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:

• Bachelor of Science degree in Geology or Earth Sciences.
• Registered or able to register in a P Geo program with the Professional Geoscientists of Ontario or equivalent.
• Minimum 4 years of experience in a similar role with exposure to the mineral exploration industry.
• Practical experience with field mapping and prospecting including supervision of crews.
• The candidate should demonstrate a high level of energy, self-motivation and strong organizational skills with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision and be able to manage crews during the field season.
• Excellent English communication skills, both orally and written and the ability to work with all levels of the organization.
• Strong computer skills including use of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Access, PowerPoint etc.) and GIS programs (QGIS or ArcGIS); experience with digital data capture on field tablets, Leapfrog Geo, Datamine Discover and AcQuire considered an asset.
• Adaptable to an ever changing high-demand work environment, with the ability to continually work in remote or challenging physical environments in all weather conditions, including hiking in undeveloped terrain with carrying heavy gear.
• Legally entitled to work in Canada.
• Valid G class driver’s license or equivalent.

Work Location and Conditions:

• This is a town-based job near Larder Lake, Ontario. This position involves working at an accessible mine site on a 4 days on/ 3 day off schedule during the field season with some flexibility in the off season.
• Travel time and expenses are subject to MAG Silver’s policy.
• There will be exposure to extreme temperatures in all seasons including working outdoors in snow, mud, ice, and wet conditions, walking to and from different locations on uneven ground, prolonged periods of standing and physically handling/lifting/moving heavy objects.
