Rainy River Mine
Situated in beautiful northwestern Ontario, 65 km northwest of Fort Frances, the Rainy River Mine is an open pit, gold and silver producing, residential mine site.
The Rainy River Mine, located adjacent to the Ontario / Minnesota border is 65 Kilometers northwest of Fort Frances, Ontario and is situated half way between Winnipeg, Manitoba and Thunder Bay, Ontario The area is home to more than 130 species of birds and large populations of moose, black bear and deer. If you enjoy outdoor activities including hunting, fishing, winter sports and lake country then this is an area you will love to live and work in.
About The Role
Schedule: 14 days on /14 days off - 12 hours per day
Position Reports To: Underground Senior Geologist
Position Overview:
Reporting to the Senior Underground Geologist, the incumbent is responsible for participating in all geological activities related to the development of both Main Underground and Intrepid Underground Projects. Specific areas of oversight include ore control, continuous improvement projects, geological interpretation, short range modeling, geologic database management, and assisting the Senior Underground Geologist with month end reporting and reconciliation. The Project geologist will work closely with the Operation and Engineering departments as well as with drilling contractors.
Key Responsibilities
Work in conjunction with Senior Underground Geologist to ensure the achievement of departmental and operational goals.
Ensure the team and the contractor work in accordance with the safety procedures.
Assist with planning, implementation and execution of sampling, mapping, and delineation drilling programs
Support the production geologist with data collection (grade control and core logging).
Provide geological interpretation of sampling, logging and underground mapping data.
Oversee activities related to determination of ore waste boundaries and provide daily guidance to Operations on ore handling and dilution control.
Assist the senior underground geologist with monthly reporting and ore loss and dilution analysis.
Ensure the QAQC protocols are in place and followed and assist in monitoring and reporting of QAQC results.
Manage database integrity and review data for production and reconciliation purposes.
Ore/lithological domain model creation and updating based on drilling and underground data collection.
Contribute to the development of policies and procedures with respect to Geological modeling and grade/waste control.
Daily communication with Engineering, Mine Operations and Contractors.
Participate in the coaching, mentorship, and evaluation of GIT and non-technical staff.
Assist in all aspects of production and in other key areas of the mine as required.
Qualifications
4 Year University geology program. Graduated Honours degree or equivalent
Registered or able to register as a GIT or P. Geo in Ontario, Canada
Minimum of 7 year of experience in mining industry including underground geologist role
Valid Driver’s license
Strong interdepartmental communication skills
Able to change and re-prioritize tasks as new information is gathered
Strong ability to self-learn
Able to work independently or within groups
Strong computer skills
Experience with diamond drilling programs is an asset
