Duties
Delivery of specialized technical support services for the planning, design, construction, operation, maintenance and use of building facilities, as well as project management support for construction/maintenance projects and architecture, interior design or engineering activities and for the implementation of various technical services programs in Correctional Service Canada (CSC) facilities.
Building facilities include, but are not limited to, the buildings and interior of the facilities, including site configurations, security features and capabilities, institutional facilities and infrastructure, parole offices and community correctional centres.
Work environment
The majority of the positions are located at Regional Headquarters in Kingston, ON, with one position located at Beaver Creek Institution in Gravenhurst, ON. All positions monitor and examine construction projects within federal correctional facilities across the Ontario region.
The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) is the federal government agency responsible for administering sentences of a term of two years or more, as imposed by the courts. CSC is responsible for managing institutions of various security levels and supervising offenders under conditional release in the community.

Intent of the process
The intent of this process is to identify qualified candidates for current and anticipatory staffing needs for Project Officer, Facilities Planning positions with Correctional Service Canada - Kingston, ON and Gravenhurst, ON.
Staffing needs include permanent, temporary (term) and casual (maximum 90 working days in a calendar year) employment opportunities.

Graduation with a diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution in Civil Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, Electromechanical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Power Engineering Technology or Architectural Technology or an acceptable combination of education, training, and experience*
- Experience in the field of construction or project management.
Degree equivalency
EXPERIENCE
Experience analyzing and interpreting documents related to building construction (i.e., shop drawings, specifications, sketches, blueprints, etc.)
Experience planning and managing multiple building construction projects at one time
Experience monitoring budgets and contracts in the construction industry

EDUCATION
- Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in architecture or mechanical, electrical, civil engineering
- Eligibility for certification as a professional engineer in Canada with specialization in an engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position
- Certified technician or engineering technologist from the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT)
- Professional certification “Project Management Professional (PMP)” obtained from the Project Management Institute (PMI), or other professional designation related to project management issued by a recognized institution
Degree equivalency
EXPERIENCE
Experience using computer-aided drafting and design software (example: AutoCAD)
Experience in providing technical advice and support to develop project proposals
Experience working with a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
Experience working in a correctional environment

SELECTION PROCESS STAGES
This selection process has four stages:
Stage 1 - Screening
The applications will be reviewed (screened), specifically the responses to the four (4) questions assessing the essential qualifications imbedded in this job advertisement.

Stage 2 - Take-Home Written Exam
The take-home written exam is anticipated to commence in April 2024.
Stage 3 - Interview
Interviews, anticipated to commence in May 2024, may be completed in person or by Microsoft (MS) Teams.
Stage 4 - Reference Checks
Two references will be requested during stage 3. References may be contacted in May/June 2024.
Candidates may be asked to complete a questionnaire on asset qualifications (education and experience) at any stage of the process.
Volume management methods may be utilized, specifically by focusing on those candidates who meet the asset qualifications. If to be applied, this will be coordinated through the above-mentioned questionnaire.
