General Accountabilities
-Prepare technical reports on work program activities
-May be required to contribute to the general administration duties of the work group
-Periodically supervise staff in assigning work, checking work and giving instructions
-Carry out protection and control work responsibility on equipment as assigned
-Troubleshoot abnormal/improper equipment performance, identify, locate and correct problems 
-Consult with supervisor on problems and abnormal conditions
-Assure adherence by others to contract conditions as assigned
-Perform and/or witness acceptance testing
-Perform all activities in accordance with standards and procedures
-Report to supervisor on deficiencies and recommend improvements
-Inform supervisor of Facilities that require review/evaluation
-Prepare recommendations as required
-Coordinate own activities with others to carry out assigned work
-Provide technical advice and guidance pertaining to P&C equipment to other groups as requested by supervisor
-Contribute to the training of Protection and Control staff
-Instruct others in the operation of related equipment
-Carry out or arrange for minor modifications or special requirements on protection and control equipment as requested
-Utilize and maintain test equipment in performing protection and control work
-Provide suggestions for repairs/modifications or replacements
-Perform other duties as required
 
Selection Criteria Essential Knowledge:
-Understanding of the wide range of P&C equipment including SCADA, RTU equipment, revenue metering, protection and control equipment
-Demonstrated knowledge of protection, control and metering systems test equipment
-Demonstrated knowledge of various policies, procedures and standards that govern full commissioning maintenance and troubleshooting of P&C systems
-Demonstrated knowledge of P&C systems as gained through engineering design or practical field experience
-Understanding the characteristics of P&C systems
-Knowledge of regulatory requirements and Hydro One standards pertaining to market rules in P&C design and maintenance
-Requires an engineering knowledge of electrical and electronic theory to participate in the work program pertaining to the protection, metering, control and telecommunications for operation and maintenance of the electric power system
-This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired in either a four-year university education in an appropriate field such as electrical engineering or the equivalent
Essential Experience
-Requires the ability to prepare clear, concise and effective written documentation to provide technical advice and guidance to others and to participate in the preparation of designs and specifications
-Requires experience to become familiar with a variety of work activities on protection, control, metering and telecommunication equipment
-Requires becoming familiar with commissioning, problem analysis and maintenance to ensure satisfactory installation and operation of equipment
-Requires becoming familiar with the area of operation, the location of major pieces of equipment, the relationship between other regional and head office personnel, methods and procedures governing the work involved
-A period of up to 2 years is considered necessary to gain this experience
Essential Competencies
-Good oral, written and listening skills to represent the department
-Ability to formulate maintenance strategies
-Ability to implement new technologies where economic to enhance station designs
-Ability to specify equipment for major projects and manage projects with manufacturers and field staff
-Ability to analyze complex problems in P&C systems and implement solutions
-Good interpersonal and leadership skills to be able to establish respect and rapport with field staff and project an air of assertiveness and confidence with consistency of approach
-Ability to provide technical leadership and to provide training to new staff
-Self-starter, capable of working with little supervision given only general directions
