Your opportunity:
The Department of Economics ranks among the top economics departments internationally and is ranked number one in Canada. Nearly 70 per cent of all students take at least one course in economics during their undergraduate studies and our faculty is committed to educating and inspiring them all. Teaching and research in our department span a wide range of fields including theory, applied data analysis and econometric methodology. Located in the downtown core of Canada’s largest city, our department is immersed in a rich environment of rapidly expanding business and financial capital.
Under the general direction of the Department Manager, the incumbent will oversee the Department of Economics' research grants and contracts that are varied and complex in scope. This position will provide back up financial support to the department, as required. 
Your responsibilities will include:
-Forecasting, planning and monitoring multiple complex budgets
-Analyzing complex statistical reports and/or financial information for management decision-making
-Interpreting and applying policies and procedures when making independent decisions
-Monitoring, recording, reconciling and/or reporting on funding accounts for grants and contracts
-Ensuring research sponsor financial terms have been applied correctly
-Liaising with internal contacts to resolve restricted fund administration and reporting issues
-Applying the University Guide to Financial Management and other applicable policies, agency and regulatory requirements
-Keeping well-informed on changes to policies, procedures, collective agreements, and applicable legislated requirements
 
Essential Qualifications:
 
-Bachelor's Degree in business and/or accounting or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
-Minimum four years’ of financial experience, and experience related to research grants, and contracts
-Demonstrated work experience in aspects of accounting up to and including payroll, account reconciliation, and preparation of financial statements
-Demonstrated strong knowledge of general accounting principles and procedures
-Solid work experience interpreting and applying financial policies
-Experience interpreting and adhering with granting agencies’ funding guidelines and policies
-Well-developed financial forecasting analysis abilities
-Proven experience with compiling, investigating, and analyzing financial information as well as making recommendations based on outcome of analyses
-Experience with processing payroll in a university setting
-Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
-Highly proficient in using MS Office, with advanced skills in MS Excel
-Advanced experience with University's Administrative Management System (FIS, DIS, RIS, and HRIS), or other similar systems

Pay Scale Group & Hiring Zone:
USW Pay Band 13 -- $83,150 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $106,336. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
