As a Public Safety Technology Analyst with the Calgary Fire Department (CFD), you will provide hardware and software technology solutions to Fire & Emergency Response to promote firefighter safety and provide incident commanders with real time intelligence to make decisions that will successfully mitigate emergencies. Primary duties include:
- Acquire, implement, manage, install, troubleshoot, and maintain CFD frontline operation hardware and software, including computer aided dispatching (CAD) mobile application, mobile computing, two-way trunked radio system, vehicular technologies and fire station alerting system.
- Gather business requirements and perform system design.
- Act as the asset steward for mission critical technology systems.
- Provide mission critical technology SME service for business end users, including technology coaching, account administration and general business operations support.
- Review, analyze and occasionally modify systems including encoding, testing, debugging, and installing software and programs to support application systems.
- Manage technology contracts, projects, and budgets.
- Collaborate with larger teams to work on projects that enhance and support the technology infrastructure.
- Participate in request for proposal (RFP) and request for information (RFI) processes, including determining requirements, writing, evaluating, and negotiating.
- Assist with the Public Safety CAD software solution. Assist with implementation/upgrade of CAD system and configure software to meet the needs of the CFD.
- Ensure that work follows corporate data, Information Management and Information Technology policies and guidelines.
Qualifications
- A completed 2 year technology diploma from an accredited institution and at least 7 years of related experience, OR;
- A degree in Information Technology or related discipline and at least 4 years of related experience.
- An understanding and design capability in electrical design principles and implementation of technology.
- Knowledge of data processing, hardware platforms, and enterprise software applications.
- Knowledge in any of the following areas will be an asset: Modern P25 radio networks, Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL), Firehall Alerting Systems, broadband and LTE network.
- Experience collecting, organizing and analyzing significant amounts of information and translating those requirements into software solutions will be an asset.
- Strong communication skills, technical aptitude, critical thinking and problem-solving skills, the ability to collaborate and clearly communicate with business and technology related working groups, and the ability to present technical information and make recommendations to management.
