Purchasing Manager
Hinton, Alberta based coal mining operation is looking for a highly motivated and experienced individual to join our team as Purchasing Manager. The candidate must be self-motivated, have good communication and good organizational skills.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Full cycle management of purchasing and inventory control process.
- Manage a team consisting of buyers, warehouse clerks, and parts runners.
- Maintain current and future supplier relationships.
- End-to-end responsibility for the RFP, RFQ, RFI, PR, and PO processes in coordination with mine operations.
- Oversee the negotiation of purchase contracts.
- Ongoing evaluation of purchasing activity across the operation.
- Act as the liaison between operations and suppliers to ensure quality, service, and pricing remain competitive.
- Develop relationships with key internal stakeholders across the business.
- Acts as business partner across departments while providing expert sourcing insights, recommendations, and guidance.
- Report to departments on the availability, lead-times, delays, and ETAs of needed parts and supplies.
- Assure that high quality and cost-effective parts and materials are procured.
- Ensure that a continuous supply of critical parts is maintained and build contingency plans for suppliers to ensure continuity of supply.
- Observe usage of critical parts and maintain adequate stock amounts.
- Record and analyze the progress of purchases and inventory status within the company’s ERP system.
- Maintain adequate files and records.
- Purchasing support to companies’ other locations as required.
- Ensure that all processes are compliant with company policies and procedures.
Experience/Skill Requirements
- 5+ years of purchasing and warehouse experience or related maintenance experience.
- Excellent contract/negotiation skills, writing and communications skills; able to represent the company in supplier meetings.
- Experience with materials management and warehousing ERP systems; SAP preferred.
- Self-starter, able to see projects from start to finish with little oversight from leadership.
- Ability to communicate with all levels of management and company personnel.
- Proficient in use of Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and use of the Internet
