Tasks and Responsibilities

Kelowna Bike Rentals is a socially responsible bike rental provider that supports two local non-profit organizations, CRIS (Community Recreational Initiatives Society) and Elevation Outdoors. This position will have two main areas of responsibility. The primary role is focused on supporting our new rental program in partnership with CRIS Adaptive Rentals. We are entering our second season of providing bike and adaptive equipment rentals to residents and tourists alike in the Kelowna region.

This role will be responsible for customer service, checking bikes in and out, basic maintenance/safety checks on all equipment, managing rentals, and briefing customers on how to use the equipment as well as the safety protocols they will need to adhere to.

They will also be involved in inventory management, bookings, and customer service follow up. This will provide an opportunity for the youth to learn about both able bodied and adaptive recreation equipment and support the clients as they learn how to use it.

The secondary area of responsibility for this role will be supporting our summer programs and events to provide them with a well rounded experience to build a diverse range of skills. Within the programs they will support our instructors, engage with our participants and help with group management.

For events, they will support day-of execution, help raise awareness, and promote the events to the customers of the equipment rental operations.

Duties

CUSTOMER SERVICE

• Greet customers and provide friendly customer service.
• Answer customer inquiries and provide information about our bike rental services.
• Assist customers in choosing the right bike rental for their needs.
• Help customers with bike rental paperwork and complete the rental process.
• Ensure that the bike rental shop is clean, well-maintained, and organized.
• Maintain accurate records of bike rentals and customer information.
• Ensure that all safety rules and regulations are followed.
• Assist with other duties as assigned including weekly bike maintenance
• Clean bikes on display keeping the display clean and organized at all times.
• Check and respond to emails
• Handle and complete any weekly and monthly tasks
• Other tasks as needed to support the work of the organization
• Be a positive ambassador for Elevation Outdoors and CRIS Adaptive to all customer and members of the public
• Basic maintenance on all equipment after training
• Working with Volunteers, both able bodied and those with diverse abilities
• Supporting summer camp and mountain bike program delivery
• Other tasks as needed to support the organization and our work

Start Date - Start dates will range from May 1 through early July based on the person/role and availability

Position Details

WORKING CONDITIONS

• The Customer Service role works in varied environments including, but not limited to; Kelowna Bike Rentals at Knox Mountain and, Bay Ave Office/Bike Shop.
• This position is for 35-40 hrs per week and requires flexibility to work weekends.

COMPENSATION

• Starting at $20.00 per hour
• 4% vacation pay, as outlined by Employment Standards Act, is payable on all paycheques. If time off is required, a formal request must be submitted at minimum two weeks in advance and be approved by your manager.
• Staff discount of 50% a bike rental limited to 1 per day based on walk-up availability

• Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment; (Criteria of the Federal Government Youth Employment funding stream)
• Be Canadian citizens, permanent residents or persons to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; and
• Be legally entitled to work in Canada under relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations
