Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer the Recreation Coordinator is responsible for coordinating Village recreation programs and facilities with the intention of providing opportunities for sport, recreation, and community engagement for all residents of Port Williams.
Duties:
Coordination of recreational facilities:
- Work collaboratively with the Superintendent of Public Works to ensure that recreational facilities are operated and maintained effectively and safely.
- Coordinate booking all recreation/community facilities for sports, programs, and events, in conjunction with the Village Administrative Assistant
- Manage contracts and/or facility user agreements associated with recreation programs.
- Monitor the use of recreation equipment and facilities.
Plan and develop programming:
- Assess the recreation needs of the community.
- Assist existing organizations within the Village to plan and implement programs and events.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of programs and identify areas where new programs are needed.
- Ensure a variety of programming is available year-round.
- Ensure programming is inclusive and, wherever possible, accessible.
Engage with the community:
- Supervise and lead activities.
- Support and oversee volunteers, student placements, and term recreation employees.
- Promote programming (posters, social media, in-person).
- Receive feedback from the Recreation Advisory Committee (RAC).
- Respond to inquires from the public regarding recreation programs, facilities, and community events.
Work within a budget:
- Work with the Financial Officer to ensure programs stay on budget.
- Prepare program reports (costs, program attendance, etc.).
- Maintain program attendance sheets and account for fees.
- Issue receipts for fees collected to program participants.
- Help prepare funding applications, track funded programs, and help develop funding reports.
Follow policies and procedures:
- Maintain familiarity with policies and procedures of the Village.
- Maintain familiarity with policies, procedures, and regulations regarding sport, recreation and cultural activities, events, and competitions in Nova Scotia
- Help to ensure recreation and community programs and events are compliant with current provincial laws and standards.
Other:
- Provide monthly reports to the Village Commission and attend Village Commission meetings.
- Other duties as needed and directed by the CAO

Salary: $23.00-$24.50 per hour
