EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

THEATRE PROGRAMMING AND COMMUNITY EVENTS COORDINATOR

Known as the “Gateway to Muskoka”, the Town of Gravenhurst is a progressive growing urban and rural municipality located in the District Municipality of Muskoka, home to 13,000 or more permanent year-round residents and a seasonal population of equal size. The Recreation Programs and Events Assistant will assist the Community Recreation Coordinator and Director of Recreation, Arts and Culture with planning and delivering Programs and special events. Additional duties will include assisting and supporting the Recreation Arts and Culture team with special projects, programs, events, and tasks.

Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Assist the Community Recreation Coordinator with the implementation of a variety of community initiatives, Programs and special corporate events and where required, organize and lead activities.

2. Assist the Director of Recreation, Arts, and Culture with annual third party event applications, planning and implementation.

3. Visit and evaluate current programs, deliver supplies, survey participants and make recommendations on future program and activities.

4. Promote and stimulate program participation, providing guidance and role modeling to instructors and volunteers. Monitor programs, services and activities to ensure safety of participants, quality in programs. Collect and submit completed program/activity reports.

5. Lead and instruct programs solely or in collaboration with partners.

6. Supervise children and youth during activities, field trips, outings and special events ensuring their health and safety is of utmost importance.

7. Conduct equipment inventory on a recurring basis and recommend replacement of damaged, missing, and depleted supplies. Secure supplies, equipment for programs.

8. Deliver high quality customer service to Centennial Centre users by providing general assistance and guidance as needed;

9. Assist with special projects and initiatives as needed.

The successful applicant will be required to submit a current Drivers Abstract and a Police Background Check.

Education, Skills & Experience:

1. Post-secondary education or current enrollment in Recreation Leadership, Youth Services, or related discipline

2. Standard First Aid & CPR, High Five certification recommended

3. Previous experience with events is an asset.

4. Minimum of one year experience working with youth.

5. Proficiency in a computerized environment, operating systems, database software, Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Publisher and Power Point

6. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written

7. Ability to work in a team environment

8. Outstanding customer service skills

9. Excellent leadership, problem solving, customer service and multi-tasking skills

10. Requires a flexible work schedule (attending evening and/or weekend programs, meetings and Events)

11. Ability to work under pressure and to organize work to meet firm deadlines

12. Valid G license with a clean drivers abstract satisfactory to the corporation (Use of own vehicle may be required)
