Position Summary
Do you have a passion for nursing? We have the position for you! We are seeking a motivated Registered Nurse with a dedication for delivering compassionate patient care to join our team at Prince Rupert Regional Hospital.
In accordance with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards of practice and the Mission and Values of Northern Health, and working collaboratively and in partnership with the interprofessional care team in the provision of person-centered and recovery oriented care the Specialized Mental Health and Substance Use Liaison performs intake assessment, offers crisis intervention, and provides input into the care of patients experiencing difficulties with Mental Health and/or Substance Use concerns in the Emergency Department, Acute care and community. Provides input into the care of patients awaiting transfer for further assessment or inpatient admission in relation to MHSU. Assists with ensuring effective patient flow for assessed patients through collaboration with Emergency Department nurses, other emergency service providers, the specialized and interprofessional community Mental Health and Substance Use team(s) and other community service providers. Assists in adapting care plans to address MSHU needs, with final dispositions authorized by the physicians and/or consulting Psychiatrist. The Specialized MHSU Liaison works in close association with specialized and interprofessional community Mental Health team (s), agencies and other community service providers.
Shift Rotation/Hours of work: Days, Evenings, 09:15 to 20:30 (Rotating)
Prince Rupert Regional Hospital is a 24-bed facility that sees an average of 22,000 ER visits per year. It is a fully equipped facility with Medical Imaging, Laboratory, ICU, ER and Maternity. Services include:

Qualfications
•Graduation from an approved school of Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing. Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse and/or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
•One (1) year recent related experience in acute or community Mental Health and Substance Use setting or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

•Critical Thinking - Demonstrated ability to integrate and evaluate pertinent data (from multiple sources) to problem-solve effectively.
•Teaching - Ability to transmit information intended to instruct clients and others about topics essential to health care and well-being.
•Assessment and Intervention - Demonstrated ability to complete initial and ongoing client assessments (clinical and diagnostic reasoning) and provide nursing care through appropriate/ prescribed technical, therapeutic, safety type interventions.
•Ability to operate related equipment including proven ability to utilize computer technology.
•Physical ability to perform the duties of the position
