About the Role

Lift is seeking two Registered Nurses/Registered Psychiatric Nurses to join the multi-disciplinary qathet Complex Care Housing (CCH) team to collaborate with the healthcare team to support clients’ development of physical, social, emotional and life skills. Working alongside the CCH team, the Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse is responsible for providing excellent direct care to Lift clients, including supportive recovery assistance. The successful individuals will be enthusiastic team players, understand the importance of trauma-informed care with a focus on harm reduction, and be passionate about community.

This is a part-time 32hrs a week Monday-Sunday position and has a salary range of $40.21-$43.29 per hour. The successful candidate would be required to work in-person and be located in the Powell River area. Additionally, there is a relocation reimbursement of up to $10,000.

 What You Will Be Doing

  • Delivers direct health care to program clients who may be experiencing mental health concerns or clients in the process of withdrawal, stabilization or other addiction treatment programs by assessing client health status, observing, monitoring and evaluating client progress, symptoms and behavioral changes, reorganizing priorities, developing and revising care plans, and managing client’s medication, as required.
  • Coordinates clinical activities including but not limited to the transitions between substance use services and community programs for clients in their early recovery journey.
  • Implements multidisciplinary care plans, observes client’s behavior and symptoms, provides feedback regarding client’s needs, performance and progress, recognizes anticipated/unanticipated client responses to care, develops short term strategies in response to emergent situations and reports significant observations to appropriate team members.
  • Provides education and counseling to clients on matters of substance use, harm reduction and relapse prevention based on the individual client recovery goals.
  • Works collaboratively with other nursing staff, health care professionals and clients in supporting client substance abuse concerns, ethical dilemmas, coordinating care across services and provides input into future treatment plan(s).
  • Administers medications when required in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Maintains records in accordance with established procedures and policies, and prepares/maintains statistical data, correspondence reports and other documentation, as required.
  • Collaborates and consults with the interdisciplinary team, other health care professionals/partners, and clients/families to establish appropriate goals and holistic care plans.
  • Promotes interdisciplinary collaboration in the identification and resolution of client care issues, treatment concerns, continuity of services, cultural and language barriers, ethical dilemmas, crisis management, and community resource coordination.

What You Will Need

  • Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) or ability to obtain.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of recent, related experience providing treatment services to individuals with mental health and/or substance use concerns.
  • A combination of education, training and experience may also be accepted.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous communities, intergenerational trauma as a result of colonization, and Indigenous Cultural Safety training.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide effective service in a variety of community settings and with diverse populations, especially those with mental health or substance use disorders.
  • Knowledge of the principles of Trauma Informed Practice, Harm Reduction and Recovery Oriented Care.
  • Broad knowledge of substance use and a non-judgmental attitude towards working with clients with problematic substance use through their recovery.
  • Ability to problem solve using critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Strong ability to plan, organize and prioritize workload.
  • Effective communicator with proficient use of nonverbal, verbal, and written styles.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), EMRs, or similar programs.

  • Requires Vulnerable Sector Check and Criminal Record Check clearance.
  • Valid BC Driver's License and access to a personal vehicle for local area travel may be required.
