The ABB Measurement and Analytics plant in Québec is the world leader in spectroscopy. Our Contract Engineering Department is Canada's largest supplier of space optical sensors used, among other things, for greenhouse gas emissions monitoring and weather forecasting worldwide. Our plant is also known for its expertise in the development and manufacture of various products that make it possible to meet several industrial analysis needs on a daily basis. By joining one of the largest engineering departments in Quebec City, you will actively contribute to the projects of our customers, as well as to the Research and Development of our technology. You will be part of a dynamic and stimulating multidisciplinary team where you will perform various tasks, while ensuring the respect and continuous improvement of our methodology, tools, and work processes. Your role as an engineer or optical scientist will be to be part of multidisciplinary project teams, and in collaboration with other specialists, to ensure and guide the optical design of remote sensing and analytical instruments for aerospace missions, defense and security products or process analysis.

Your responsibilities

  • All the optical aspects of a project.: Design, Analyses (Tolerancing, Straylight, Structural Thermal Optical Performance [STOP]), Specifications, Test and alignment procedure.
  • Interact directly with the project manager in order to meet the customer’s needs within the costs, deadlines, and quality standards previously established.
  • Collaborate with the designers and engineers throughout the project.
  • Carry out optical performance analyses using empirical, theoretical, and simulation equations (ZEMAX, CODE V, TracePro, etc.).
  • Participate in business development for facets in optical design.
  • Use optical laboratory equipment for all the activities during the project (interferometer, centering machine, auto-collimator, etc.).
  • Participate in the development of the integration and alignment templates.
  • Support manufacturing engineering.

Your background

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering physics with a concentration in optics or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in optical design.
  • Proficient in French and English (spoken and written).
  • Collaborative and solution-oriented approach.
  • Strong personal motivation, you are autonomous, you show initiative, and you care about order and quality.
  • Deep commitment to safe work practices and compliance with workplace safety rules.
  • Programming knowledge (Matlab, Python) an asset.
