Role and objectives:

The Research & Development Incentives Manager at Kalesnikoff plays a central role in our innovation strategy. Responsibilities include securing and managing incentives and funding programs, with a key focus on optimizing returns from the SR&ED tax credit program. Collaboration with operations, business development and design teams ensure alignment of Research and Development initiatives with our strategic objectives.

Responsibilities:

SR&ED Tax Credit Program Expertise:

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of the SR&ED program,
  • Identify SR&ED program opportunities including eligibility assessment for R&D and improvement initiatives.
  • Organize and coordinate trial time recording within our operating and maintenance teams to ensure we maximize our SR&ED tax credit claims.
  • Collaborate with our R&D teams to develop technically sound project proposals.

Strategic Funding Identification & Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Identify and assess Research and Development grant opportunities & tax incentives from various government and industry sources.
  • Maintain a database of available incentives and stay informed about new opportunities and changes to existing programs.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with funding agencies, government bodies, and industry partners.
  • Assist in developing a strategic plan for acquiring grants and optimizing the use of the tax incentive programs, integrating with our long-term budget planning.
  • Research and evaluate funding opportunities for green technology initiatives, aimed at promoting sustainability and environmental innovation.

Proposal Development:

  • Collaborate with operations, manufacturing, and design teams to communicate project details.
  • Ensure timely and accurate submission of applications, adhering to all guidelines for program requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records of relevant activities, expenditures, and outcomes for audit purposes.

Financial Oversight & Program Management:

  • Collaborate with finance and R&D teams to develop and manage budgets for funded projects.
  • Develop project budgets in collaboration with key internal stakeholders, ensuring accuracy and alignment with grant guidelines.
  • Monitor grant budgets and expenditures throughout the project lifecycle, working closely with finance and accounting departments to ensure compliance with grant guidelines.
  • Work closely with R&D project teams to track and report on the progress of initiatives supported by grants, with a focus on SR&ED compliance.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (Science, Engineering, Business, etc.).
  • Proven experience in grant management, specifically in the context of Research and Development, with a focus on the SR&ED program.
  • In-depth understanding of Canadian research grant and tax credit programs, especially the SR&ED program, and funding mechanisms.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, particularly in conveying technical concepts.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and project management abilities.
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative, cross-functional team environment.
  • Effective communication skills with individuals at all levels of the organization
  • Computer literate, including effective working skills of MS Word, Excel and e-mail.
  • Ability to adapt to and learn new software.
  • Able to work efficiently as a part of a team as well as independently.
  • High level of critical and logical thinking, analysis, and/or reasoning to identify underlying principles, reasons, or facts.
  • Able to work well under pressure and meet set deadlines.
  • Good organizational, time management and prioritizing skills
  • Ability to interpret and implement company policies and procedures.
  • Attention to detail in all areas of work.
