As a Research and Development Analyst, you will work to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the Community Strategies division, including the Data Strategies team & the Calgary Fire Department (CFD) by conducting, interpreting, and presenting research and analysis findings. Primary duties include:

  • Summarize and interpret analytical information and present findings.

  • Conduct analyses on existing programs, policies, performance, and resource utilization.

  • Document future growth plans and link these plans to future fire operations requirements by analyzing existing fire coverage and forecasting concepts.

  • Evaluate long and short-term emergency response needs/priorities through analyzing and identifying the impact of demographics, geography, traffic, and economic and social/political trends.

  • Compile, design and prepare major presentations for City Council meetings, budget sessions and public presentations.

  • Represent the Data Strategies team and exchange valuable information by participating in The City of Calgary's corporate initiatives.

 
Qualifications 
  • A completed 2-year diploma in Economics, Social Sciences, or a related field and at least 5 years of analytical research experience is required. 

  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) is required. 

  • Experience using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS), electronic case management and risk assessment will be considered an asset.

  • In depth experience with producing and changing reports using Power BI and/or Systems Applications and Products (SAP) Business Objects will be considered an asset. 
  • Success in this position requires strong communication and writing skills, analytical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.

Compensation: Pay Grade 9 $37.79 - 50.55 per hour 
Days of Work: This position typically works a 5 day 
work week, with 1 day off in each 3 week cycle. 
Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week
