Job description:

Response specialists help carry out marine environmental response activities on the water, including cleaning up marine pollution and oil spills. This important role helps keep Arctic waters healthy and safe.

Your work location would be one of our offices or bases in the Arctic. Please apply only if you are already living in, or willing to relocate to, the North.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Helping to respond to marine pollution incidents on the water, including setting up containment booms
  • Maintaining and operating specialized equipment and machinery, including containment booms, skimming systems, and pumps
  • Providing input into plans and procedures, including emergency preparedness plans, technical guides, and action plans for specific incidents
  • Assisting in on-water exercises with partners and local communities
  • Investigating reports of pollution and determining a course of action
  • Inputting information on pollution incidents into reporting systems and preparing regular reports on specific incidents

Education, Experience and Skills:

  • Must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident
  • Secondary school diploma or a combination of education, training, and experience
  • Experience researching and preparing reports and/or technical documents
  • Goal orientated, collaborative, with a strong work ethic
  • Experience working in any of the following fields:

o firefighting

o law enforcement

o search and rescue

o environmental response

o aquaculture

o commercial fishing

o field research

o dockside or at-sea monitoring

o outdoor field services (e.g., guiding services for hunters or fishers)

Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday
  • Weekends as needed

Work Location: In person
