Restaurant Floor Manager
Role: As a shift leader, you are responsible for ensuring smooth execution of service at
the restaurant during your scheduled shift. You are expected to have a strong
leadership presence, mentor and support the team whenever possible, hold staff
accountable for Shed’s practices and procedures, and ensure exceptional guests
experience is being delivered and up to Shed’s standard.
From mid October - mid May Shift leaders will be serving sections as part of their daily
shift.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
● Overall presences on the floor and ensuring exceptional guest experience;
making sure all guests are leaving happy and resolving guests complaints to the
best of your ability
● Overseeing service operations, including opening and closing; guiding and
mentoring service staff to ensure all tasks and duties are complete
● Vibe and atmosphere including music, lighting, candles, torches, TVs, and
fireplaces are set up properly and in a timely manner and are up to Shed’s
standards
● Communication between the management team and other shift leaders
● Taking ownership of the cleanliness and organization of the restaurant.
● Having leadership presence and being engaged in staff development and
mentorship; being available to support the team whenever necessary during
service
● Recording & relaying information on any incidents in the incident book
● Efficient and thorough training of new staff
● Maintaining clear and effective communication with the BOH team on matters
when necessary
● Ensuring execution of all current and new systems and protocols
● Awareness of sales volume; reading the log book to see what sales have been,
what cuts have been made in previous days to gain an understanding of
expected sales
● Unexpected events or situations – to be dealt with in a calm and timely manner.
(music, Silverware issues, etc.)
● Point of Contact – liaison with levels of government related to daily operations of
the restaurant such as bylaw officer, health inspector, liquor inspector. (incident
log, SIR numbers, liquor license, etc.)
Shift Responsibility Breakdown
● Hold all staff accountable for arriving at work on time and attending briefing.
● Fill out the briefing sheet with any pertinent information
● Create servers sections based on strength, z-card status, schedule, rotate daily
as best as possible
● Make sure the music volume is appropriate in all areas throughout the restaurant.
● Make sure TVs are set to appropriate channels or videos.
● Take note of any maintenance that needs to be done.
● Maintain the cleanliness and set up of the restaurant.
● Make sure washroom checks are being done frequently.
● Hold all staff accountable for providing excellent service to each and every guest.
● Communicate 86s or any other relevant information to all staff throughout the
night.
● Handle Silverware corrections, promos, 86’s, etc.
● Find tasks for servers to do when they have down time.
● Keep the server and side duty area clean and organized.
● Find time to float through the restaurant, touch tables as much as possible
● Check in and make yourself available to support all areas of the restaurant
including bartenders, hosts, bussers, servers.
● Hold all staff accountable for getting all side duties done.
● Be accountable for labour. Make appropriate cuts, making sure never to affect
the guest experience.
● Take note of anything we are running low on or out of, make sure we are aware it
is needed.
● Take note of any cleaning or maintenance issues and write it in the post shift or
contact a senior manager to get it fixed asap.
Ideal candidates have:
● Minimum 2 year experience in the service industry
● Passion for exceptional service
● Strong interpersonal skills
● Eagerness to learn
● Proficient communication and organizational skills
Job Type: Full-time
Salary: From $24.00 per hour
