Job description

Do you like to be in a role where you will be leading the operations and maintenance of various roads and grounds at the Chalk River Laboratories facility. If you answered yes, then this may be the job for you!

The Roads & Grounds Specialist is responsible for leading the operation and maintenance of assigned Roads & Grounds at CRL facilities. He/She ensures safe, reliable, compliant, and efficient operation of Roads & Grounds to meet the expectations of their customers.

What will you be doing!

  • Responsible for technical support and coordination for Roads & Grounds for facilities and projects.
  • Responsible for understanding and developing client requirements with both short- and long-term strategic plans to support facility/building improvements – including project coordination and assembling resources/team to meet client requirements.
  • Analysis all client requirements (Corrective Actions from Monthly Building Inspections) for Chalk River site and develop a strategic plan to meet these requirements in a priority sequence.
  • Review prints and documents for RTO projects on behalf of Infrastructure Management to ensure our standards are met
  • Develop, track and report on monthly- operation, deferred & capital budget. This will include quarterly review and re-forecasting if needed.
  • Lead technical and non-technical staff that perform day-to-day maintenance road & Grounds and deliver Capital and Operating Improvement Projects, as well as provide performance management, mentorship, and coaching.
  • Complete Self Assessments, pre job and post job briefs, observation & coaching, etc.
  • Responsible for carrying out duties within the Roads & Grounds program plans, National Building Code (NBC), Site License and Canada Labor Code.
  • Maintain records and other related documents such as codes.
  • Prepare road & Grounds maintenance related documents based on established priorities.
  • Ensure rounds & Grounds preventative maintenance activities are established and entered Avantis.
  • Support and track service delivery contracts for the inspection, and maintenance of Roads & Grounds.
  • Monitor Roads & Grounds deficiencies for corrective actions in liaison with support groups.
  • Verify consistency between field data and drawings for Roads & Grounds.
  • Provide support for new development and modifications from concept to commissioning for Roads & Grounds including document and design review, witness testing and identify deficiencies before turnover.
  • Provide safety culture and even free tools for fellow employees to ensure safe measures are met.
  • Maintains a good relationship with building occupants, managers, trades people, contractors, consultants, regulators, peers, project staff and others in the project review process to ensure Roads & Grounds requirements are met.
  • Collaborate with multi-level contacts across CNL to resolve technical inquiries regarding Roads & Grounds.
  • Coordinates the activities of Roads & Grounds to meet deliverables.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.


What we are looking for:

Experience:

Experience of Roads & Grounds, safety practices, construction, and maintenance techniques in the following:

  • Building systems, regulatory and code requirements, site license requirements
  • Knowledge of project management practices including preparation and tracking of annual program plans complete with detailed itemized activities (O&M and Capital), cash flows, schedules, risks, procurement strategy, change control and resource profiles.
  • A minimum 5 years of experience planning and scheduling work, work management exposure and have demonstrated the technical ability to assume responsibilities as described.

Education:

Graduation from an Institute of Technology or equivalent with a minimum of five years’ experience in maintenance/construction or Roads & Grounds, including two years of supervisory experience.
Security Requirements:

Security clearance eligibility required: Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom.
