The Family Centre is currently looking for 2 dynamic individuals to provide support to families. One position is full time permanent and the other is a full-time maternity leave coverage. What you will be doing:

Roots and Wings workers support families to improve overall functioning; working with caregivers to create healthy family environments. You will support processes to increase parenting capacity, strengthen resiliencies, and natural connections, viewing families you are working with as having potential for success. You will also play a role in communities having collaborative access to resources, organizations are educated and mobilized to support, and families are positively engaged within the community.

  • Meet with families 1:1 to develop goals enhancing effective parenting skills, increasing natural supports, strengthening core life skills, communication and advocacy skills, and reducing sources of stress
  • Address and provide resources for issues that are interfering with positive parenting, such as mental health concerns, addictions, domestic violence
  • Positively influence brain development by focusing on attachment, literacy, culturally sensitive play, and nutrition
  • Educate caregivers on how adverse childhood experiences, toxic stress, and trauma affect parenting and child development
  • Assist caregivers with developing an interest in and establishing a process to engage in their child’s learning at school (homework time, school attendance, etc.)
  • Build connections between school and caregivers
  • Assist school administration with developing a school that is welcoming and strength-based place for all students and their families

What you will bring to the role:

  • Degree in Child & Youth Care, Social work (or)
  • Degree in Human Services (Psychology, Sociology, Education, Human Ecology or Early Childhood Development) with experience in the field (or)
  • Diploma in Child & Youth Care or Social Work with related experience.
  • Proficient communication, caseload management, and facilitation skills
  • Experience working with diverse populations, especially Indigenous families
  • Computer Literacy including, but not limited to Microsoft and Google products

Background Check Process & Requirements:

As a part of the selection process, The Family Centre will conduct reference checks with your most recent employers.

  • Police Information Check -Vulnerable Sector (Completed Within the last 6 months)
  • Child Intervention Record Check (Completed Within the last 6 months)
  • Registration with a professional body, if eligible (such as RSW)
  • $2 million vehicle liability insurance
  • Reliable vehicle, available for regular use and a valid driver’s license
  • 5-year driver abstract (renewed every 3 years)
  • Our Children Are Sacred Youth Suicide Prevention Training or ASIST Suicide Intervention Training within 3 months of start date
  • Standard First Aid Level C CPR with 3 months of start date
