School Counsellor

The School Counsellor will provide one-on-one and small group counselling for students and will provide programming to educate high school students on overall well-being. This is a temporary role from September 15, 2023 to May 31, 2024 that could lead to a permanent position.

Specific duties:

• Perform short term counselling and crisis intervention for high school students as needed

• Provide programming to educate students regarding well-being issues

• Consult with teachers and explore possible strategies and solutions for the concerns that arise to support students

• Maintain confidential records of interactions with students

• Guidance for teachers in identifying students who may require additional support and intervention

• Identify areas of concern with students and develop strategies to improve the interactions between students

• To implement restorative justice procedures following discipline incidents

• To meet regularly with the counselling team and school base team

• To act as a coordinated and integrated support team to meet individual needs

• To act as a coordinated and integrated support team to meet group or grade level needs

• To facilitate communication with parents from the integrated support team to offer consistent and coordinated advice in supporting their children

Qualifications:

• Masters in Counselling or equivalent

• Registered Counsellor, RCC or CCC

• Teaching experience, certified teacher will be an asset

In addition to adhering to the BC Ministry Curriculum, we integrate Sikh Studies and music programs. Our students actively participate in daily Sikh prayers, Kirtan, and Ardaas from Kindergarten through Grade 12, which cultivates a profound understanding of Sikhism.
