POSITION TITLE: Mower Operator - Community Services
JOB STATUS: Seasonal, Temporary
TERM: Late April/early May to end of August
REPORTS TO: Community Services Supervisor
Position Summary
Reporting directly to the Community Services Coordinator, the Seasonal Mower Operator will be responsible for providing mowing operations at various locations within Westlock County. Applicable Municipal equipment must be operated in a safe and effective manner. Perform other duties as assigned. The incumbent deals with residents and members of the public which shall be done in a courteous and respectful manner.
Duties and Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Community Services Coordinator, the duties and responsibilities of the Mower Operator include, but are not limited to, the following:
General Duties – 90%
- Mowing and weed trimming operations at locations including but not limited to hamlets, utility and fire stations, cemeteries, and other County-owned properties
- Safe and efficient transport and operation of mower and weed trimmer
- Responsible for daily maintenance and cleaning of mower and equipment prior to leaving site to reduce weed contamination
- Responsible for ensuring garbage collection and general clean-up for specified Recreation Department sites
- Advise Supervisor of any requirements for maintenance or repairs
- Ensure equipment is safely and securely stored
- Maintain accurate mowing records
- Hand-picking weeds when required
- Perform duties to a high degree of quality, timeliness, and precision
Health & Safety and Other Duties – 10%
- Ensure that Westlock County's Health and Safety Program as well as Occupational Health and Safety standards are followed
- Promotes a safe work environment, ensuring compliance with all Government regulations, and Health & Safety policies and practices. Participation on the County's Joint Health and Safety Committee as required
- This position may be called to perform duties as required by the Director of Emergency Management during a State of Local Emergency
- Complies with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIP) Act
- Required to perform other duties as assigned from time to time

Minimum Requirements
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Preference given to individuals with experience, including operation of zero-turn mower and weed trimmer
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license with an acceptable drivers abstract
- First Aid is an asset
Knowledge
- Equipment preventative maintenance
- Occupational Health and Safety standards
Skills and Ability
- Ability to read maps and understand land locations
- Interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with ease in difficult situations communicating with residents and the public
- Ability to work under minimal supervision
- Strong organizational and time management skills, effectively prioritizing activities
- Physically fit, with ability to comfortably lift 50 lbs.
- Ability to be comfortable driving gravel roads
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
Working Conditions
- Frequent interaction and meeting with residents (landowners) and members of the public of Westlock County
- Physically demanding position, using hands and fingers in repetitive movements, and requires frequent bending, kneeling, heavy lifting, walking on slippery and uneven surfaces. This position also involves standing for extended periods of time and exerting up to 80 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects
- Subject to working in mostly outdoor environment which may have environmental exposure to weather conditions, rough terrain, and wildlife
- Use and operation of a vehicle or other motorized equipment which will require attention to detail and high levels of alertness
- Regular working day typically consists of up to 8 hours, for a total of 40 hours a week; however, occasional overtime or weekend work may be required
- Some travel may be required
HOURS OF WORK: Hours vary depending on departmental need and weather conditions.

Salary: $24.73-$27.46 per hour
