The Organization:
The Little Shuswap is traditionally known as Skwlax, which translates to Black Bear in Secwépemctsín, the traditional language. Skwlāx te Secwepemcúĺecw (SteS) has a unique vision and drive; the Band has not only led the way in tourism within the Shuswap, but it has also led the way in economic development. The creation of Quaaout Lodge, Talking Rock Golf, Le7ka Spa, and Little Shuswap Gas Station has helped promote Secwepemc culture, and allowed the Little Shuswap Lake people to develop world class accommodation and leisure activities. The governance structure of SteS is unique and forward-looking, divided into 4 distinct sectors: Administration, which covers programs and services for Band members; Territorial Stewardship, which addresses title and rights issues and external government-government relations; Economic Development, which oversees the business operations of the community and works to promote a strong, resilient economy for the community and Wellness, which covers programs and services for the health of the band and oversees Head Start . Strong management and leadership with clear vision and an excellent team of committed employees make up the engine that drives the community forward.

The Opportunity - A Day in the life of the Security Guard:
Under the direction of the Community Safety Officer, the Security Guard will assist in security services of the Skwlāx te Secwepemcúĺecw band. The Security Guard is client centred and operates at the highest level of confidentiality. The Security Guard is responsible for preventing and detecting signs of intrusion, theft, vandalism and ensuring security of the buildings and grounds of the Skwlāx te Secwepemcúĺecw band and territory.

Requirements - What you bring to the organization:

• Two years’ experience as a Security Guard or equivalent education and experience.
• Knowledge of basic Legal System and Bylaws.
• Courses from the Justice Institute for Private Security Certificate is preferred.
• Successful completion of the Basic Security Training (BST)
• Must be 19 years of age or older.
• First Aid level 1 or 2, minimum
• Knowledge of relevant policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective security operations for the protection of people, property, and buildings.
• Ability to react reasonably and appropriately in emergencies and work well under pressure.
• Strong ethics and knowledge of confidentiality.
• Valid B.C. Class 5 Driver's License (copy required)
• Up to date Drivers Abstract
• Current Criminal Record Check
• Reliable transportation with valid business insurance

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

• Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with Skwlāx te Secwepemcúĺecw policies and procedures.
• Protect property as well as prevents and detects signs of intrusion, theft, vandalism and ensure security of the buildings and grounds of the Skwlāx te Secwepemcúĺecw Reserves.
• Answer alarms and investigate disturbances.
• Monitor access to band buildings, if required.
• Call emergency personnel, as required.
• Patrol presence, if requested, in large public or community events.
• Warn persons of rule infractions or violations and contacts the Supervisor or RCMP of major incidents.
• Write reports of daily activities and irregularities, such as equipment or property damage, theft, presence of unauthorized persons, or unusual occurrences.
• Maintain confidentiality on all matters relating to the affairs of the Skwlāx te Secwepemcúĺecw.
• Flexible schedule to between day and night shifts.
• Other duties as required.
