As the Senior Building Structural and Envelope Engineer, you will be responsible to ensure safe, durable and efficiently operable City owned building infrastructure by providing Building Structural and Envelope Engineering investigation, analysis, and advice. Infrastructure includes fire halls, recreation facilities, transit garages, park facilities, community associations, maintenance workshops, office buildings, and site structures. Primary duties include:

  • Provide Building Structural and Envelope design reviews to City Business Unit owners, project managers and external consultants to confirm: design best practices, appropriate material and component selection, durability, completeness, constructability, and capital and life cycle costs.

  • Maintain and develop Building Structural and Envelope requirements for the engineering design guidelines for City owned buildings and site structures. 

  • Lead the Building Structural and Envelope Engineering team.

  • Represent The City, together with your team, as the subject matter experts for Building Structural and Envelope Engineering.

  • Provide engineering advice on existing and proposed buildings and site structures to maintain, repair and preserve City owned facilities managed by the corporation, civic partners or community groups.

  • Support business units by reviewing facility condition assessments and lifecycle plan reports.

  • Conduct regularly scheduled and as required existing facility and construction site visits.

 
Qualifications 
  • A related degree in Engineering, registration as a Professional Engineer in Canada, and current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) or licensure by the first day of work.
  • At least 8 years of post Professional Engineering related experience in building and site structures and building envelope design and review. 
  • A valid Class 5 Driver's Licence (or provincial equivalent) and the use of a personal vehicle for business purposes is required.
  • Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Accredited Professional status will be considered an asset.
  • Experience in Building Structural and Envelope assessment and restoration of heritage buildings would be an asset.

  • Ability to effectively communicate and resolve technical and operational issues for clients of differing technical abilities. 
  • You demonstrate the ability to contribute to a team effort utilizing a consultative and collaborative approach.

  • You demonstrate an aptitude for assessing and resolving complex and uncommon engineering issues, and recognizing potential design issues.

Working Conditions: This position has some exposure to hazardous conditions during facility and construction site visits.

Compensation: Engineer Level F $100,567 - 154,029 per annum
Days of Work: This position works a 5 day
work week earning 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.
Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week
