Manages and maintains enterprise databases, adhering to data governance and management policies. Designs databases that follow standards for data integrity, structuring and application specifications. Monitors the organization's metadata and repository usage. Creates and implements an appropriate database backup and recovery strategy. Proactively monitors and optimizes performance and tuning. Applies expertise to transform from on-premise databases to cloud data services and leverages cloud database technologies available (e.g. AI and intelligent threat detection).
Operates, supports, and evolves existing legacy data sources. Collaborates with delivery teams to ensure that data sources are developed and evolved in a quality manner.
Installs, configures, monitors, maintains, and improves the performance of databases and data stores.
Determines, creates, maintains, enforces and documents database policies, procedures and standards.
Ensures company databases are functional and backed up. Sets procedures for data recovery and builds necessary security protocols for the system.
Ensures overall data integrity, periodic maintenance and protects the database against threats or unauthorized access.
Administers database objects to achieve optimum utilization.
Focus is primarily on business/group within BMO; may have broader, enterprise-wide focus.
Provides specialized consulting, analytical and technical support.
Exercises judgment to identify, diagnose, and solve problems within given rules.
Works independently and regularly handles non-routine situations.
Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed.
Serve as SME (subject matter expert) for SYBASE IQ and other database technologies.
Responsible for database backup and restore functions including scheduled tests of DR availability, including knowledge of SYBASE IQ database restoration and availability technologies such as Clustering, Replication and especially Always-On.
Production database level(SYBASE/Oracle/SQL) performance tuning.
Participates in SQL code-reviews for the application teams to enforce SQL coding standards.
Builds and reports on SQL environment performance and availability metrics and takes appropriate actions to implement best practices and optimize performance.
Assist in the technical analysis and design for current and future projects.
Need to understand the basic Linux Shell command, write and execute Linux Shell script as per the Project requirement.
Participate in SYBASE IQ migration to AWS project.
Qualifications:
Typically between 5 - 7 years of relevant experience and post-secondary degree in related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Strong and demonstrable experience as DBA in large-scale SYBASE/MS SQL/Oracle environments.
Experience with Clustered managed instance databases.
Good hand-on knowledge in Data warehousing and Data mining Technical domain.
Documented hands-on expertise managing high-volume instances of MS SQL setups featuring high availability.
Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to get to the route of an issue quickly.
Develop and establish policies and procedures related to data security and integrity; monitor and limit database access as needed.
Ensure all database servers are managed to Recovery Point Objectives (RPO) and Recovery Time Objectives (RTO).
Document the company’s database environment.
Experience in writing automation scripts, building application dashboards for proactive monitoring using Ruby, PowerShell, Python scripting or similar technologies, ability to debug and optimize code and automate routine tasks
Experience with database storage engines and master-slave replication principles and practices.
Experience as Linux systems administrator (e.g. CentOS, RedHat) and command line system administration such as Bash, VIM, SSH.
Good communication and coordination skills, able to work collaboratively with team members.

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
