The Senior Director of Digital Development and Enterprise Solution Architecture is a strategic leadership role responsible for overseeing the digital transformation and technology initiatives within the Air Canada’s Customer Digital Technology domain. This position will provide strategic oversight of digital platforms, core commercial application development & maintenance, enterprise integration platforms, as well as enterprise Solution Architecture. The Senior Director will be accountable for managing the digital application portfolio, budgets, and building a highly performant technology team. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Customer Digital Technology, the Senior Director will play a critical role in driving innovation, enhancing operational efficiency, and ensuring the seamless integration of technology across the airline's Customer, Commercial, and Contact Centre business lines.

Responsibilities : 

Strategic Leadership:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive Digital Development and Solution Architecture strategy aligned with the airline's commercial business goals and objectives.
  • Provide strategic oversight and guidance for digital platforms & applications, enterprise integration platforms, event streams, and enterprise Solution Architecture within the Airline Customer & Commercial domain.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders, business leaders, and cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for digital transformation, process improvement, and operational excellence.
  • Stay updated with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices to drive innovation and maintain the airline's competitive edge.

Digital Application Portfolio Management:

  • Manage the digital application portfolio within the Customer & Commercial domain, ensuring alignment with business requirements, scalability, and operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate with business units to prioritize Digital Development initiatives and ensure timely delivery of high-quality solutions.
  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of digital applications, identifying areas for improvement and implementing appropriate enhancements.
  • Define and enforce standards, policies, and procedures related to digital application Development and maintenance.

Budget Management:

  • Develop and manage the annual budget for Digital Development, ensuring efficient allocation of resources and adherence to financial targets.
  • Monitor expenditures, track financial performance, and provide regular reports to senior management.
  • Identify cost optimization opportunities and implement measures to maximize return on investment.

Team Building and Leadership:

  • Build and lead a high-performing technology team, providing guidance, mentorship, and professional development opportunities.
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment that promotes innovation, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement.
  • Define clear roles and responsibilities, set performance expectations, and conduct regular performance evaluations.
  • Collaborate with HR to attract, recruit, and retain top talent in the technology field.

Stakeholder Management and Collaboration:

  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including commercial leadership and executives, product leaders, IT teams, vendors, and partners.
  • Ensure ongoing alignment with the Director, Delivery and Performance – Customer regarding priorities, budget, and resourcing requirements
  • Collaborate closely with business units to understand their technology needs, align digital initiatives with their objectives, and ensure effective communication throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to define and implement integration strategies, ensuring seamless data flow and interoperability across systems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Proven track record of at least 10 years in technology leadership roles, with a focus on Digital Development, enterprise Solution Architecture, and integration platforms.
  • Extensive experience in the airline industry or a related field, preferably in the Airline Operations domain.
  • Strong understanding of digital platforms, event streams and notifications platforms, and enterprise integration platforms.
  • In-depth knowledge of enterprise Solution Architecture principles, methodologies, and best practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute strategic technology initiatives, driving innovation and business transformation.
  • Excellent leadership and people management skills, with the ability to build and motivate high-performing teams.
  • Strong business acumen, with the ability to understand complex operational challenges and translate them into technology solutions.
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and influencing skills, with the ability to engage and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proven experience in budget management and financial analysis.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., TOGAF, ITIL) are a plus.

Working Conditions: 

  • Required to be in office a minimum of 3 days a week 
  • Will be required to support activities which may require evening code releases and maintenance activities
  • Travel domestically and internationally may be required to visit vendor sites, attend conferences, or training
